XGIMI Horizon Ultra

XGIMI Horizon Ultra, packshot

r/projectors · Alternatives to the Horizon Ultra?

I had the horizon ultra and had to send it back because the contrast is so poor. I replaced it with a Hisense, which is much better. Unfortunately the box doesn't fit into the decor as well and its a bit louder, but its a much better projector for projecting.

    r/projectors · Xgimi Horizon Ultra

It's fine that it's not an OLED, that wasn't my expectation. It just makes for a very poor comparison. My question is all about whether the Horizon Ultra has particularly bad contrast/blacks or whether there is significantly better to be had at the same price range

    r/projectors · Xgimi Horizon Ultra

Yeah, I'm not looking to go wild, as it's just the bedroom, and it's fine if it's not OLED levels, because what else is. I just saw it and was like "that's a lot of just sort of greyish mush".

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon Ultra Recommendation

My understanding is the xgimi horizon ultra is a decent step behind the valerion streammaster plus/plus 2. The Xgimi Horizon 20 is a better comparable to the streammaster plus/plus 2. Is a non-teal projector more important than picture quality?

    r/projectors · Help me choose a projector around 1000

Valerion StreamMaster plus 2 would be my suggestion. The Xgimi ultra isnt the brightest projector so if you have a decent amount of light into the area, I'd stay away from it. StreamMaster Plus is a cheaper option, but quite a bit less lumens so brightness in brighter rooms might he an issue.

What you could try is to order this one on nov 18th and if you see that the Black Friday price is better, you cancel your order and order with the Black Friday price. Up to you, unfortunately I don't know what they are planning for Black Friday. For the Horizon Ultra and FHD, the rebate is bigger so I suppose the price won't be lower for Black Friday.

r/projectors · Thoughts on Xgimi horizon Ultra

The contrast on the Horizon Ultra is particularly weak. The newer models from other manufacturers just simply blow away this model. The Hook Up took note of the poor contrast in this comparison video from a couple of years ago... [https://youtu.be/3KmKv-TTIQQ?si=w7NYqGbMEgzj8aqN](https://youtu.be/3KmKv-TTIQQ?si=w7NYqGbMEgzj8aqN) The newer S Max from XGimi is really a step up for them and puts them in more serous competition with the other models which are out there now... [https://youtu.be/ClIboELoz74?si=sxBm34L11hxEY8Pv](https://youtu.be/ClIboELoz74?si=sxBm34L11hxEY8Pv) I think the Nexigo Trivision Ultra is a great option for those who want a really solid image overall for a fair price. The XGimi stuff is still quite good overall though in terms of build quality and color accuracy, which is good to have.

I say this as someone who has been using my iota for 1.5 weeks and as someone brand new to the projector world, so take my opinion with those disclaimers: HDR is beautiful. The difference in content is impressive when you turn HDR off and on quickly. While the ultra is known for poor contrast/black levels, it is also known for having extremely accurate color replication. For my needs, the contrast issue isn’t an issue. However, if you’re a big into films, don’t have gaming needs, or don’t have a spouse obsessed with aesthetics, the Hisense C1 is probably a better choice based on my purchasing research. r/projectors · Benq TK710 or Xgimi Horizon 20?

It was the horizon ultra 4k. All projectors support 24p it weather they can convert 24p to 60hz because that is the frame rate they project at, so it has to do what's called pull down which is a method to convert all frame rate coming in to 60hz and because 24 into 60 doesn't work very well it has to do some frame dropping (Google it). For me the Xgimi didn't have the processing power to do this with out juddery, most noticeable on panning shots and fast motion. The Epson LS 9000 is smooth as silk with all frame rates.

r/projectors · Best (for my uses) 4k Projector under £1000 UK

I did have my eye on the Horizon Ultra but was put off by the poor contrast ratio (http://youtube.com/watch?v=3KmKv-TTIQQ&t=727s), and the lack of gimbal stand. I would have happily gone with the Horizon 20 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QqnfJ0-I\_s&t=1121s) but we get shafted in the UK for prices (£1499 in the UK vs $1559 in the US). So I went to the hookups older videos to try and get something under £1000, which got me interested in the Hisense C2 ultra (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClIboELoz74&t=65s), still bloody over budget! But then I came across the good people of Reddit and AVS forum recommending the Vidda C3 ultra which is available through Alibaba, Mine came to £1041.93 shipped (might be less now), so seemed like a no brainer to get a newer model for less than the C2 ultra. So far I'm very happy with my decision, it's definitely the best specs I could get in my budget. It has HDMI 2.1, but apparently the chip can't handle 4K 120 hz even though your source will detect it as 120 hz capable, it isn't. The pros, amazing colours and contrast ratio, decent speakers - good base, low input lag (reportedly, I've gamed on mine and notice no lag - but then again I'm old and bad), optical zoom, really fkin' bright, good upscaling to 4K. The negs, no warranty, Chinese OS, needs a streaming stick for use, and laser speckle is baaaad (I'm projecting onto a matte white wall, yeah I'm buying a screen next!).

r/projectors · Is XGIMI Horizon Ultra a good buy?

I actually just received mine recently. I spent a lot of time watching and reading reviews before buying it, and honestly, in the end it’s a very, very good projector. I wouldn’t overthink it too much. The dead pixel issue is something that can happen on DLP chips, and that’s true for around 80-90% of projectors on the market, not just this one. It’s not specific to XGIMI. The contrast is good, the game mode is solid, and at the current promo price it’s probably the best value for money right now. I personally paid €1000, and at that price I think it’s absolutely worth it. One thing that’s often underestimated but makes a huge difference in daily use: the optical zoom. It’s honestly an essential feature for comfort and proper installation, especially in a bedroom setup. For evening and night use, it’s excellent. During daytime, 2300 ISO lumens is decent with some ambient light control, but like any projector, it really shines best in darker conditions. Overall, at this price point, I don’t think there’s a better 4K option right now.

Hisense has laser speckle and rainbow effect. Horizon ultra has the weakest contrast out of all 3 but the colors more than make up for it. Hisense is the brightest. Yes, you are completely correct (I mean other than the Epson 1080), but.... the Horizon Ultra is much, much, much, much worse. and also for $1000 budget i only recommended that if he wanted to buy new, that or the Benq 2060. I would buy the Refurb 4550i. Also, why do you always promote that german screen company; NO ONE WANTS THAT. Could you please stop promoting that screen, it's almost as if it's your product.

    r/projectors · What Projector should i buy?

You will have to use keystone for the Horizon Ultra. It is a horrible projector, I have seen both in person on display, and the horizon ultra looks worse than my goodee projector so.... The 20 max on the other hand is a beast, and the lens shift is AMAZING. The Horizon ultra has some cheap DV certificate but it looks Horrible. the 20 max obviously has the same certificate that was bought out, but it still looks significantly better

Ultra doesn't support remember last input... so if your gaming etc you have to always reselect after starting it... which is annoying. Not personal experience I was just looking at getting one and saw that problem complained about. Xgimi Horizon 20 looks like an updated model in the same ballpark cost wise. Not sure if the Xgimi Horizon 20 remembers last input... im wanting to find that out and waiting for its Aus release. Xgimi horizon 20 looks far better in general and has optical zoom and lens shift which from all the reviews amazed the reviewers as its something you only see in far more expensive projectors.

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon Ultra for €1100 worth it?

Unfortunately that I can't tell you, I was just looking into it earlier in the year and remembered coming to the conclusion that the C1 would be a better choice. I've not bought it yet but after Christmas it's next thing on the list. I'm pretty sure that XGIMI have a big internet presence with paid reviews and as such they are over rated. Not that they're awful or anything but when it comes to actual independent testing they seem to underperform and I've seen many comments unhappy with the blacks on the horizon. Hisense C1 should be a beast though, I don't think you can go wrong if you're happy with it's software etc (I can get a used one on eBay in new condition for £650 here) the Valerian Vision master Pro was the best I saw, but quite hard to get your hands on where I am and more expensive.

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon Ultra for €1100 worth it?

https://www.reddit.com/r/projectors/s/byTwkeKJdb Thread of people comparing the horizon and c1. Looks like my memory was correct, general consensus is that the contrast on the horizon is no where near c1 levels.

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon Ultra for €1100 worth it?

It's very hard to find unbiased opinions in the projector world. You're probably finding that yourself. From what I gather in independent testing the horizons blacks are a bit of a letdown and this can be a deal-breaker. Have a look at the Hisense C1 or C2 and see if you like the look of them better. I remember them scoring higher for this price range on a video review. I will try and find it now, it had breakdowns of lumens, colours etc.

r/projectors · Advice: XGIMI Horizon S Max or XGIMI Horizon Ultra?

Just another question. What kind of screen did you buy? A grey ALR one of something else? I'm gonna use the screen I have for almost 25 YEARS, was quite expensive at that time (usd 700). I bought it at that time for my first Hitachi PJ TX100 projector (normal bulb). The reason I'm hesitant for a trip laser solution is because of I'm quite afraid for getting laser speckle. Therefor the Ultra would be better. But I'll give in a lot in the darker scenes, reviews are quite bad on that. What's your experience?

r/projectors · Advice: XGIMI Horizon S Max or XGIMI Horizon Ultra?

Thanks. The price difference is only €100, but you miss out on the stand as well. But all in all, I stream from my receiver to the projector.  Because of interior choices, cabling is not permanent; every time I wanna use the projector I will have to setup the rig, connect is on mains and connect an hdmi cable to the projector. Some rituals I guess.  Because of that I don't think I will have it standing in my living room 24/7. Good thing so that it won't collect dust and can't be damaged by toppling or whatever 😉 For the stand I might get this one from alibaba: 💰 Krijg US $ 30 korting op uw eerste bestelling. Hi, This Black Friday week there are a few Xgimi Horizon projectors with interesting deals. Had the Horizon Pro but have returned it. Was not what I expected. Auto aligning wasn't very good, image was not mind blowing.  Now I have two others I have laid my eyes on.  The Horizon Ultra costs €999 (including free TV stick), the Horizon S Pro costs €1099 (including free TV stick AND free floor stand!).  Ultra has optical zoom and a plethora of ports, S Pro has triple laser and higher lumen.  Three things, no four that boggle me...  1) will I be missing out on optical zoom when skipping Ultra, optical will always create 100% true detail 2) Will S Pro give me laser speckle when on 20 year old projector screen (possibly hi gain).  3) that damn stand, why is it not in the Ultra-deal? 4) too little ports to connect to.  I never watch movies or play games without getting the darkest possible room. Have heavy curtains so that's a wrap. Have a receiver through which all data will flow. Audio and video from PS5, Nvidia Shield and other periferals will be sent through receiver to projector. What are your experiences or thoughts?

What are your experiences or thoughts?

r/projectors · Advice: XGIMI Horizon S Max or XGIMI Horizon Ultra?

We went with the Horizon Ultra in the end, prioritizing the optical zoom over the brightness. We've been happy with it. Certainly not perfect during daylight when we have ambient light, but we don't tend to watch much during the day -- just the odd sports event here and there, and we've been able to deal with that. Only one person has been bothered by a rainbow effect when I tried to run something in 4K, and we switched off of the 4 K to deal with it. I have the same question re: the stand. I sort of wish we had it for the Ultra, but we actually don't need it, due to the auto keystone correction. In the end, it may look better in our room without the stand. It really does look nice in the room; it doesn't look like a projector at all when it's not in use - just like a boxy speaker. We haven't needed the ports -- but that may be different for different people, depending on how you use it. My biggest complaints are that Android TV really isn't the best interface (you have to have a workaround for getting to netflix) and that the remote isn't particularly good (it's not backlit and I end up hitting the wrong button a bit too easily and often). Definitely first-world problems, so all in all we're happy with it. Plus, the Ultra was cheaper than the S Pro when we got it (I don't remember how much the difference was).

    r/projectors · What Projector should i buy?

I don’t really want to take a chance with the 20’s triple laser with speckle, rainbow, eye strain, etc. being possible issues. In fact I am trying to avoid all models using that technology. I am wondering why you think the Horizon Ultra is horrible when I have seen only overall positive reviews of it. The only drawbacks I’ve seen mentioned are that the quality in dark scenes is pretty poor, but for a sub-$1,000 projector I haven’t found anything else available that seems better. What would you recommend?

    r/projectors · N1s 4K ou xgimi horizon ultra

For a living room with some ambient light, both projectors should work fine for movies and gaming. Personally, I’d lean a bit toward the N1S 4K—it’s got solid brightness and colors, and the feedback from other users has been really good. The XGIMI Horizon Ultra runs Android TV system, while most of the newer smart projectors are on Google TV, which tends to feel smoother. Kinda like buying a phone—you usually go for the newer model 😄 But honestly, either could work depending on what you care about most.

r/projectors · Horizon Ultra vs M2 Pro vs LG HU70LS

The XGIMI HORIZON ULTRA is a solid unit that kind of does it all. It’s very bright, so you won’t have any issues there. Its contrast isn’t as impressive as its brightness, so blacks look a bit grey in a dark room, but for a bedroom setup it still does the trick and probably won’t bother you. It also isn’t very noisy under load, so it shouldn’t be distracting if you’re watching with the volume down at night. Input lag at 60Hz is fine for casual gaming. If you care more about gaming and newer features, the Hisense M2 Pro is worth a look. It’s not quite as bright, but it has more modern gaming options (up to 120Hz/240Hz at 1080p) and supports Dolby Vision, so it’s the more advanced choice if higher frame rates or future consoles/PC gaming matter to you. And considering that you can get it for less than the Ultra, it might be the way to go.

r/projectors · BenQ vs Hisense vs Xgimi

tldr: For me, xgimi horizon 20 is worth the wait but hisense c2 ultra is a great alternative. I was in a similar situation. I now have xgimi horizon 20 max but before that I owned: * hisense c2 ultra * xgimi horizon ultra 4k * xgimi horizon s max For me, xgimi horizon 20 is worth the wait. I use the projector for movies, tv shows and gaming on ps5/xbox series x. hisense c2 ultra is better than xgimi ultra 4k and s max simply because it's noticeably brighter and has better darks. The visuals also look very crisp. I was already wowed by xgimi s max but hisense c2 made me go wow again. hisense c2 gaming is superb because it is "Designed for Xbox" meaning it's tested to have low latency and fast responsive time which from my testing it is true. I also noticed I could see more detail when gaming with hisense c2 ultra than xgimi ultra 4k and s max. My main disappointment with hisense c2 ultra is the software. It uses something called "VIDAA OS". Everything works but I preferred a more recognizable brand instead. This isn't a deal breaker though. I'd say hisense c2 ultra will exceed most people's expectations by a lot. xgimi horizon 20 max is slightly better than hisense c2 ultra. I can see more details and color than the hisense c2 ultra. Just as an average consumer, I played the same scene in a few movies and compared both. xgimi horizon 20 max is better but hisense c2 ultra is still very good. Gaming on xgimi horizon 20 max is slightly better than hisense c2 ultra. It's got the same low latency / fast response time but I can see more details. I also like that xgimi horizon 20 uses Google TV for the software. This makes setup a lot easier and I prefer it because it's a more popular brand. I liked that xgimi horizon 20 max comes with a strong case in the package that you can use to store or travel. One slight disappointment is the design looks the same as horizon s max but loses the functionality where the front speaker grill panel moves up to cover the lens. I really didn't expect that as the older ones had that functionality and it protects the lens from damage and getting dust when not in use. Not a deal breaker but a slight disappointment. I would give hisense c2 ultra a grade of 4.5 out of 5 I would give xgimi horizon 20 max a grade of 4.7 of 5

r/xgimi · Xgimi Horizon Ultra 4K - Red toned Picture

Good morning, I, who wanted to invest in this type of projector, will wait given the many problems. I'm probably going to turn to one that's on the market and that I don't hear as well from the new xgimi series. In any case I'm waiting for updates if there are any and maybe I'll look at this projector next year. For furious buyers, we are waiting for feedback from new buyers.

I haven’t had that problem with either of the XGIMI projectors I have, but maybe you could try turning MEMC off/on in the projector settings to see if that fixes the problem. It’s a video processing feature that makes motion look smoother

r/projectors · Buying advice XGIMI Horizon Ultra

I’d definitely keep it — €1100 with stand + dongle is a great deal for the Horizon Ultra. All projectors struggle a bit in daylight (due to physics) unless you pair them with an ALR/CLR screen (special screens that reject ambient light so the picture stays bright). Since you mostly watch after dark, you’ll already see a nice upgrade over your Xiaomi, and if you ever add one of those screens later, daytime viewing will improve a lot too

    r/xgimi · Horizon Ultra Vs Horizon 20

I’m between the two. The Ultra currently costs around 1000 euros in Europe, almost half the price of the Xgimi 20. Do you really think it’s worth paying 800 euros more for the 20? Which of the two has a lower chance of showing the rainbow effect? I’m sensitive to that effect...

    r/projectors · Hisense C2 Ultra vs Horizon 20

I just today found out I can get the chinese models, shipped from Europe (so no 25% VAT) and since I will be using an Apple TV 4K I just need to be able to set it up and forget about the chinese OS. As a European I suppose the shoot-out is: XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro at 1.528 € (Chinese) [https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009716362843](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009716362843) XGIMI Horizon 20 Max at 1.950 € (Chinese) [https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009382902102.html](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009382902102.html) C3 Ultra at 1.890 € (Chinese, but I think with english menus - not sure the XGIMI's does that): [https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009744712150.html](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009744712150.html) What would you choose? For 50% of it's use this will be the audio source so if one is known to perform slightly better I am all ears. Also XGIMI has a EU sale for the old Ultra for 1.050€ so a fair bit cheaper, but it just seems like the extra you get for the 475 from Horizon Ultra to Horizon 20 Pro it's worth paying the extra.

r/projectors · Thoughts on Xgimi horizon Ultra

I have mine since march 2024. Exactly one year later (march 2025), one stucked pixel appeared. I contacted the european user support and after multiple back and forth emails, they said they would exchange my unit with an used ones with few hours but I had to send it back and pay for the shipping. Since I bought it from a physical store, it was preferable that the store take this problem in charge. I hesitated and thought that I could live with one dead pixels. But 3 months after, there were not 1, not 2 but 6 stucked pixels. So I headed to the store where I bought it and used my 2 years warranty. Today (one month repair), I've received an email saying that my unit was repaired. In fact, it's not repaired, XGIMI swap my unit with a brand new one.

I was in same boat as u are and finally yesterday I bought Nexigo TriVision Ultra. Over Xgimi Horizon Ultra. Based on 2 reasons. One is the blacks arent good on Xgimi as many reviews and reddit point this thing out. Second and most important reason is the Latency while gaming. Since i am planning to use it for movies and games, this was a no brainer for me. Trivision Ultra seems the best bang for buck to me.

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon Ultra vs Valerion Visionmaster Pro2?

I have the xgimi horizon ultra and love it. Biggest complaint is the blacks aren’t great and seems to be where valerion truly shines. Also gaming would be better on the valerion although story games will be just fine on xgimi. If you play any competitive games it won’t be great. Most movies are pretty impressive on it and love it only sometimes I noticed dark scenes that bother me but it’s only certain scenes once in awhile. One day I’ll probably upgrade to valerion but the price is too high for the small differences imo

    r/xgimi · Horizon Ultra or s- max

In my house I mostly used it in one spot with a distance of 3.5 meters from the wall. Keep in mind that it's my first beamer and I had it for a few months so I still have to discover the possibilities of this all inclusive machine. I'm also going to use it for film marathons in various locations like 2 times a year. So the lumen could be important cause we are watching movies all day long. The positioning of the beamer was on a cabinet not perfectly aligned with the projection on the wall. But that's in fact why this machine is so awesome, it does that for you automatically. Oh and I don't have a screen. I just use a white wall.

r/xgimi · Hold off until the Horizon S Max or go for the Ultra?

The horizons have a huge power brick on the outside so less heat inside so maybe that explains the problem with Hisense's fan noise? Is the power built in with yours? I had to return my horizon ultra after 6 months. Good machine, i love it, but the power connector didn't go totally into the dc-in and it broke the plastic inside the dc-in, exposing the pins. Also that power brick is an accident waiting to happen. If it falls off and it's connected, it not only yanks out the dc-in but possibly also the whole beamer. They show it as a portable machine around the house but then this makes it a design flaw. Luckily it's inside the warranty so they give me a new one. Now I'm checking the s-max and wonder if I should pay the extra. The dc-in is lower to the surface so that feels safer to me. Also the extra lumen and contrast looks tempting. Only there are way less ports in the back. Not sure if this is an issue for me i just like to have options. I have to say i like the design of the ultra better. More contemporary..... Damn luxury problems!

    r/xgimi · Horizon Ultra or s- max

Its a difficult one that i am considering atm. Im not concerned about the hdmi due to switchers etc and im not concerned about android 11 as it will be connected to a ps5 for gaming and streaming tv. My concern is the optical zoom vs digital which favours the ultra but then the s max has 3100 iso lumens vs the 2300 of the ultra. So i guess it comes down to how it will be used. If the brightness would benefit you then go with the s max but positioning would be key. Or if you utilise the zoom feature a lot then maybe the horizon is the one for you? How did you use the projector? For example how far away from the wall was it? And what position did you have it in?

I would put the xgimi horizon ultra a model grade above the C1 and thus it’s more expensive. I would def go that one if you can afford. Not sure about the benq.  The C1 would compete with the horizon pro spec wise. I just bought a c1 on order as the sale price put it in my budget while the other models weren’t discounted as much as thus out of budget.

r/projectors · Xgimi Horizon Ultra naturally aims upwards - are all projectors like this?

Anything but straight. And also the amount of keystone is actually quite limited. It's comically frustrating. The Xgimi MoGo 3 Pro just came out, but I assume that it will have the same issue. And it's 50% more expensive than the T2. The newly announce Epson EF-21 and EF-22 might be the best option, for a decent portable projector, but it's going to be 3-4x more expensive than the T2, to the point that it kind of defeats the purpose.

Horizon Ultra is the export version of the Chinese version RS 10 Plus, which sells for $850 in China. Other than the price, it is a solid machine. I have its big brother, RS 10 Ultra, and I've been so far very satisfied with it (only key difference being brightness). Blacks are meh, this is what you get from any home projectors. 60Hz is also by design -- it uses a 240Hz 1080p DMD with quadruple scanning, so 4 scans per 4K frame, yielding 60Hz. Mine came with 120Hz gaming mode, though it only works at 1080p.
