r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon S Pro - There's no reviews out there... but wait... The Horizon S Max is definitely brighter, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into better image quality—except that it does make daytime viewing easier. In a dark room, both projectors look great. That said, when a full white image is displayed at 100", the Horizon S Max is so bright that it can actually make you squint—it’s like staring at the sun, lol. In terms of sharpness, I didn’t notice a difference in image clarity between the two based solely on the brightness (lumens). However, if you're placing the projector in a room where daylight comes in and you can’t darken the space, the higher lumens of the S Max would definitely be the better option. It is way more noticable with anime. I also tested both projectors with Venom on Netflix in 4K, as well as several 4K videos on YouTube. In those cases, the differences were subtler and sometimes hard to spot. In fact, I’d even go as far as to say that for certain types of content—like live sports—it might be better to disable the Iris Contrast Enhancement and/or iMax Mode on the Max to get an even brighter-looking picture. In my comparison photos, the 3200 lumens from the S Max made the image look slightly more washed out, which I felt didn’t give a completely fair representation. So I also included some images with just the Horizon S Pro turned on to show that it still produces an excellent picture. Honestly, if I had only purchased the Pro, I’d still be very happy with it. It’s only in a side-by-side comparison that the contrast improvements of the Horizon S Max become noticeable.
r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon S Pro - There's no reviews out there... but wait... I recently purchased both the Horizon S Pro and the Horizon S Max projectors. If you choose the Pro model, you save $600, which is a significant amount. However, the Horizon S Max includes two additional features: iMax Mode and Iris Contrast Enhancement Mode. According to the manufacturer, the Iris mode “enhances light and dark areas, making dark details more visible.” To compare the two, I tested both projectors using the same settings as closely as possible. While streaming 4K content on Crunchyroll, I found that the only visible difference was this: the image on the left (from the Horizon S Max) had both iMax Mode and Iris Contrast Enhancement enabled, while the image on the right (from the Horizon S Pro) did not. If you’ve only experienced the Pro model, you’ll still be impressed—the 4K image is crisp and clear. However, the Max version offers more advanced settings that can enhance picture depth and color vibrancy. When activating the Iris mode, you’ll hear a click from the projector, suggesting a mechanical adjustment (possibly a lens shift or iris blade adjustment). When I disabled all enhancement features on the Max, the image looked nearly identical to that of the Pro. That said, the difference becomes more noticeable—especially in animated content like anime—when the Max’s features are turned on. Personally, I prefer the Horizon S Max and, for me, the extra $600 is justified by the improved image quality and customization. Also, you will need to disable iMax Mode to enable Game Mode then reenable iMax Mode in order for anime to appear smoothly (both projectors have the game mode setting). https://preview.redd.it/w1iern9eel7f1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=88fb9c75ec31c6951dd44bd09d4eb4df8eb3431c

I recommend either projector I just prefer the Horizon S Max having the deeper color variations and more enriched skin tones.

r/budgetprojectors · Looking to upgrade from my BenQ w1070 projector to XGIMI Horizon S Pro. Would that be a significant upgrade? I think I made a mistake. It was the Horizon Pro that was on sale for $850 on Amazon.. not the S Pro which seems more at the price level you indicated.

r/budgetprojectors · Looking to upgrade from my BenQ w1070 projector to XGIMI Horizon S Pro. Would that be a significant upgrade? the horizon pro s is normally about 1300-1400. can you show us the offer because it seems very low - and a very good deal. the BenQ w1070 , being from 2012 as good old google just told me, will stand no chance against the s Pro. that will be an significant upgrade, too. I once had a Benq projector which I ditched for a Xgimi elfin and I'm in love ever since. the brightness is more than enough with the s pro in night and in the dark.

r/budgetprojectors · Looking to upgrade from my BenQ w1070 projector to XGIMI Horizon S Pro. Would that be a significant upgrade? Great! There are other factors too like projector noise might be better on the Xgimi, but I'm not too sure. Good thing is if you don't like it then eBay has a great return policy.
r/budgetprojectors · Looking to upgrade from my BenQ w1070 projector to XGIMI Horizon S Pro. Would that be a significant upgrade? The only other one for $1000 that is promising is the refurbished X3000i on eBay with 2 year warranty. That will have slightly higher contrast and brightness than the Xgimi and more accurate colors. The color coverage is slightly higher than the Xgimi though. Mondoprojos and Rtings mostly agree on accurate brightness so it seems like a brighter and better projector according to that.

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon S Pro - There's no reviews out there... but wait... I can only speak for having this projector and it’s great. I’ve not really kept up to date with newer models of this although they have launched the 20 series. But all the comments / review on this are still very much applicable. If you need one a little bright I bet the s max is so much cheaper now too.
r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon S Pro - There's no reviews out there... but wait... I'm sure there will be a lot of C1 advocates out there... It sounds like it's a fantastic projector from what I've read. A few things that helped make my decision. \- No gimble for the C1 and I'm moving my projector around (if there is one, it's an additional cost). \- I read a lot about the C1 fan noise and it kicks in by design every 'x' period, the fan on XGIMI is very quiet it was perhaps .5-1m away from me and I could barely hear it and no increase in fan at full brightness for an entire movie. \- Brightness - there's not a huge difference in brightness on paper, but I kept reading C1 shouldn't be used with much light. For the XGIMI, I've had no issue. It obviously matters what you project on to as well, but given there were no reviews for S Pro, only S Max, I thought I'd take a gamble. C1 was my second choice but it's been around for a while now and the cost just didn't feel like as much value. It was really a debate for the S Max or S Pro in my mind and the £500 or so I've saved feels much more satisfying.

r/xgimi · Guide : How to choose between Horizon 20, Horizon 20 Pro, Horizon 20 Max I have tested it here: [https://www.laurentwillen.com/en/test-reviews/projectors-tests-reviews/xgimi-horizon-s-pro-test-review/](https://www.laurentwillen.com/en/test-reviews/projectors-tests-reviews/xgimi-horizon-s-pro-test-review/) It's a good projector but it lacks a couple of things compared to the Horizon 20 base model: \- it's less bright \- it has a smaller color coverage \- it has less color accuracy \- I'm not sure it has been updated with Google TV/Native netflix (was not the case at the time of testing)

r/projectors · Is the Xgimi Horizon S Pro the best value proposition (right now) for my use case? Thanks, I have looked at the gp520 and it looks great, but the native contrast seems quite low (think about half of the S Pro) because of its black floor. It's £250 more than the S Pro so I'm not sure it's quite as good value in the round. It's very hard to judge without seeing them in person, though. Have you seen the gp520 in real life and what do you think of its dark scenes?

r/projectors · Advice: XGIMI Horizon S Max or XGIMI Horizon Ultra? Just another question. What kind of screen did you buy? A grey ALR one of something else? I'm gonna use the screen I have for almost 25 YEARS, was quite expensive at that time (usd 700). I bought it at that time for my first Hitachi PJ TX100 projector (normal bulb). The reason I'm hesitant for a trip laser solution is because of I'm quite afraid for getting laser speckle. Therefor the Ultra would be better. But I'll give in a lot in the darker scenes, reviews are quite bad on that. What's your experience?
r/projectors · Advice: XGIMI Horizon S Max or XGIMI Horizon Ultra? Hi, This Black Friday week there are a few Xgimi Horizon projectors with interesting deals. Had the Horizon Pro but have returned it. Was not what I expected. Auto aligning wasn't very good, image was not mind blowing. Now I have two others I have laid my eyes on. The Horizon Ultra costs €999 (including free TV stick), the Horizon S Pro costs €1099 (including free TV stick AND free floor stand!). Ultra has optical zoom and a plethora of ports, S Pro has triple laser and higher lumen. Three things, no four that boggle me... 1) will I be missing out on optical zoom when skipping Ultra, optical will always create 100% true detail 2) Will S Pro give me laser speckle when on 20 year old projector screen (possibly hi gain). 3) that damn stand, why is it not in the Ultra-deal? 4) too little ports to connect to. I never watch movies or play games without getting the darkest possible room. Have heavy curtains so that's a wrap. Have a receiver through which all data will flow. Audio and video from PS5, Nvidia Shield and other periferals will be sent through receiver to projector. What are your experiences or thoughts?

r/projectors · Advice: XGIMI Horizon S Max or XGIMI Horizon Ultra? We went with the Horizon Ultra in the end, prioritizing the optical zoom over the brightness. We've been happy with it. Certainly not perfect during daylight when we have ambient light, but we don't tend to watch much during the day -- just the odd sports event here and there, and we've been able to deal with that. Only one person has been bothered by a rainbow effect when I tried to run something in 4K, and we switched off of the 4 K to deal with it. I have the same question re: the stand. I sort of wish we had it for the Ultra, but we actually don't need it, due to the auto keystone correction. In the end, it may look better in our room without the stand. It really does look nice in the room; it doesn't look like a projector at all when it's not in use - just like a boxy speaker. We haven't needed the ports -- but that may be different for different people, depending on how you use it. My biggest complaints are that Android TV really isn't the best interface (you have to have a workaround for getting to netflix) and that the remote isn't particularly good (it's not backlit and I end up hitting the wrong button a bit too easily and often). Definitely first-world problems, so all in all we're happy with it. Plus, the Ultra was cheaper than the S Pro when we got it (I don't remember how much the difference was).

r/projectors · BenQ GP520 vs XGIMI Horizon S Pro vs XGIMI Horizon Ultra I am overall very happy with the projector, though it is still on the pricier side in my opinion. The picture quality is really good. The output is very crisp and sharp. I am using the tri-laser setting and have no issues with laser speckle what so ever. Beware that there is a lot of fine tuning you'll probably have to do to get the best colors and contrast though. The brightness is sufficient for me (room with blackout curtains and blinds) but it's definitely not for daytime viewing with ambient light. Unfortunately the projector must boot into the android tv menu on every startup - you can't set HDMI as the default, though you just have to press the Ok button twice, so it's not really a big deal for me. In the initial setup you can skip the Google account and wifi (you must scroll down the entire network list) steps which is good for someone like me who doesn't care for the "smart" side of the projector. At the time of research and purchase I didn't realize that most projectors project the image above the lens by default rather than directly in front of it (unlike the cheap Vankyo projector I had used in the past), so the current mounting position (on a shelf above the sofa) is not ideal. The projector has no lens shift so I had to tilt the projector slightly downward and thus required a little bit of keystoning to square the image - though I must say that the drop in resolution from doing so is not noticeable at all for me, and especially not for 1080p content. Ceiling mount is not possible for me at the moment so for the time being I will use it like this, but I am fully aware that this is user error.

r/xgimi · Review - XGIMI Horizon S Max Hi, I have the non max version of the same projector and I am also amazed, couldn't really see the point of spending more on it but I am only using it at night as I dont have the time for it during the day so the extra lumens were not worth it for me, even now im lowering the brightness when watching it at night. The netflix missimg is a shame though the power box is a annoying but I still wouldn't change.

r/projectors · XGIMI Horizon S Pro - There's no reviews out there... but wait... I might contact customer service, but I'm extremely underwhelmed. The sharpness looks really bad, especially on the native menus, and I was immediately concerned when Windows showed "1920x1080 (Recommended)" on the display settings menu. Game mode is not on, in case it does the 1080p120hz thing. I should mention that the "laser speckle" I talked about with the Hisense probably has nothing to do with laser speckle. I see some flaring around white text especially on backgrounds. It caused enough eye strain that I returned the projector, otherwise I was really happy with the colors, brightness, and sharpness. and... uhhhh... the XGIMI also has it. I feel like I remember the original Horizon Pro (single laser) not having it, but at this point I'm doubting my eyesight. I'll see an optician next week and talk about it. I feel like ordering the Hisense again to compare side by side, but that's asking too much of my bank account. I should also note that with the default settings, the Hisense was a lot brighter and had better contrast, even with the dynamic dimming enabled on the XGIMI, so options are looking like a) give up b) figure out the eye problem and get the C1 again. I doubt I'm keeping this.

From 1080P to 4K, yes. You get wider colour gamut too.
