r/projectors · What would be the best 4k projector for under $4000 for this room? →2025-07-07

LOL this room is almost identical to the room I set up my theater in, even has the air duct on the left. I bought a factory-refurbished Epson 3800 from Epson.com and ceiling-mounted it, it has been FANTASTIC. I have a 120" 1.1 screen and am using a Samsung 990D soundbar/surround while I piece together a 7.1.2 system. My setup: https://www.reddit.com/r/projectors/comments/1iyeeeg/comment/mew2c0f/?context=3 Some quick observations based on setting up basically the identical room. (Mine is 14 feet by 22 feet) - Is the room 100% light controlled? - I think you could easily do a 120" or maybe even a 125" screen. -You will 100% want sound deadening on those walls. - If you have the option, a carpeted raised back row would be awesome. My handyman built the entire raised section in one day for $700 including materials. Good luck with whatever you pick!

    r/projectors · Wirecutter 2023 'The Best Projectors' Guide →2023-11-07

The Epson 3800 is a very versatile projector and is well worth consideration for a lot of people that are new to projectors and need flexibility in their installation. It has a lot of zoom as well as a lot of lens shift, and a fair bit of brightness. It's price is reasonable while it's performance is quite solid. The HT2060 from BenQ is a fair bit of a price bump over their HT2050a. If you can find a HT2050a it is one of the best looking 1080p projectors on the market and if it is under $700 it's not going to be beat. But, their TH575 does a good job and while not better than the HT2050a, it's in production, and well priced for what you get. The X3100 from BenQ just was a co-winner of the 2023 Lifestyle Showdown at Projector Central, so yeah, it's a solid product. But, that's a different price point than the other two models. It doesn't have the zoom range of the Epson 3200/3800 models, but is similar to the HT2060 in that regard, but it adds 4K to the mix.

The Epson 3800 is a great projector. IMO, it beats out more expensive projectors like the LG AU810PB that I’ve owned for over a year before the Epson. Colors and contrast are far superior to the LG.

r/projectors · Budget projector or big screen tv (few models in mind) →2024-11-18

In my experience of always wanting a man cave with large screen, the difference from watching the typical 65" TV is massive when you go 100" or more, but since your considering 100" TV or probably 110" screen it's a more difficult conundrum. In my situation the best layout for the room has a window in the wall so a large TV is not an option and unfortunately so is a fixed screen. I am however really pleased with the Epson 3800. At least you already have a sound system as many folk considering a projector hadn't thought of that and the AVR gives you the HDMI connectivity options ( like TV's have). The TV is always gonna win in a room without sufficient light control, whilst getting the best blacks out of PJ really does lend itself to a " no lights on" and darkly decorated room. In daily use, the TV will likely last longer ( well, longer than a PJ lamp anyway). I think I've lent towards a TV there ( it just doesn't suit my situation). Enjoy.

    r/projectors · Valerion VisionMaster Pro2 washed out colors →2026-02-04

Did you test with sdr? Epson 3800 iirc has iris so should get higher contrast. Advantage of laser projector is color coverage for bt2020 and laser dimming without subtitles - so in dark scenes the laser can dim to have even better black floor. If you watch non dark content with subtitles then just keep the epson. Also, contrast ratio is affected by zoom level - try the same throw ratio on the others to match the epson. Maximum throw gives higher contrast, so your valerion at its biggest picture vs smallest picture will have like 40% contrast difference. Smaller picture has better pq, so you need to put the projector further back.

    r/projectors · Best 4k under $1000 →2025-10-05

HDR is the wild card here. You will need to find unbiased reviews. And, frankly, when I had the 3800, even though it would accept an HDR signal, I actually preferred to set my Apple TV to output SDR. Plenty punchy and the ATV had better processing than any projector I have seen under $5k (so having it convert to SDR instead of letting the projector tone map HDR worked really well). But yes, do the math on projector size and required throw distance. ProjetorCentral can a great calculator for this. Either projector you mention will be a big step up in terms of brightness, which is sure to be pleasing and help with whatever HDR option you choose (whether you let the projector tone map it or have the source device set to SDR).
