    r/shaving · Braun or Philips

I have to shave daily for work, have the same skin issues as you, tried the series 9 pro and Philips norelco 9000 prestige, they both sucked, I am back to shaving with my Gillette fusion.

r/BuyItForLife · Best electric shaver for men (foil vs rotary, sensitive skin, wet/dry), what do you actually use?

I went for a Phillips 9000 Prestige after a recommendation from this subreddit, and I deeply regret it. Previously I had a really cheap BarberBoss trimmer for like £20, and it was good enough: had a clear digital indication of the battery level, had enough attachments, and worked like a charm. Unfortunately I dropped it onto a concrete floor and it broke, and I decided to buy something else (since I knew the one I had was quite cheap and probably not BIFL). The new device has no battery level indication apart from a LED that only shows when the battery is almost empty, it doesn't cut hair as well as the cheap one I had, it's more difficult to clean, and it's almost 6 times more expensive. I am really contemplating buying the same cheap trimmer again to replace my Phillips.

r/shaving · Clean shaven men, do you prefer Braun or Philips?

I've had the Braun series 5, and the series 8. Both died within 6 months due to water ingress. My Phillips S9000 prestige just died tonight, same issue. These are IP67 rated shavers. I do not use them under water. I'm guessing rinsing the blades was enough to let the water in. They're also extremely cheaply made, as I have disassembled them post-mortem to diagnose and repair them. Please do yourself a favour and avoid anything designed or built in or near Germany. They're poorly made and overpriced. This is a lesson I have unfortunately learned the hard way.

r/shaving · Don't buy a Philips S9000 Prestige shaver, go for the newer standard S9XXX models (and a quick note comparing with Braun's Series 9)

I have the S9000 Prestige and it's terrible. It says it can do 7 day beard, it really can't. Not without too much pain anyway. I always have to preshave with One-Blade. Recently I've started shaving daily and have come from in front of mirror shaving with shavin foam, cream, or just dry to shaving in shower and while that's better it's still garbage in my opinion. The closeness is a joke, it requires 5-10+ passes to really get the close shave, no matter how gentle I am I always end up with irritated skin, it struggles to cut close but it happily rips pieces of skin off and leaves scars. The replacement blade prices are joke on itself. The three speed settings is a joke too. I feel like the highest setting isn't nearly enough (still requires multiple passes), why would there be slower speeds ? No idea.

r/shaving · Has someone already tried out the new Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra?

AI Guide Light I really noticed an improvement here. It feels more responsive, like it’s factoring in more data and doing so smarter — especially with shaving angle. I really, really like it. Noise Some say it's quieter than the Series 9000. Personally, I haven't noticed much of a difference. It does have different power settings, and yes — some are noisier than others. Makes sense. No complaints overall. Beard Trimmer I only use it to shape my sideburns, and while it’s better than the one on the Prestige 9000 (which was terrible), it still doesn't quite deliver. Maybe I’m expecting too much? Haven’t used it on a beard (I don’t have one), but it has five adjustable length settings, which is a nice feature. Battery Life Brilliant, as usual. It uses around 5–7% for a 5–6 minute shave. Screen Very nice. Even if mostly cosmetic, it’s a welcome improvement over the previous model. Accessories I won’t go into detail about what’s included — you can check that on the product page — but I will comment on what’s missing. No charger included — seriously, why? These are premium products (the 9404/06 is EUR 449 with an EUR 80 cashback), and the box is huge, so space isn't an excuse. Leaving out a charger that costs EUR 20 is just cheap — yes, I know it’s a cost-saving move, but still. No travel pouch in the 9404/06 — which is a real shame. The UV station doesn’t replace it: it's bulky and sturdy, and transporting it risks damaging it. The UV station itself looks nice and is a practical way to charge the machine, but I’m still unsure if I’d keep it in the bathroom. If it falls, it’s likely to break. The old charger was smaller, easier to store in a drawer, and perfect for everyday use. The UV station just feels like too much for that. The cleaning pod is the same as before — nothing new there. Warranty 7-year warranty — a big move from Philips and a huge benefit. That alone might justify the missing charger. Whether we'll actually use this machine for seven years... that's another question. App & AI Features Haven’t tried them yet, but I’ll update this post once I do. Conclusion Great shaver. Excellent warranty. Solid value — especially if you pick a version other than the 9404/06. I'm not saying this model isn’t worth it, but leaving out the travel pouch in favor of the UV station doesn’t feel like a smart move to me. If possible, I’d prioritize a version that includes it. Does this shaver completely outperform the Series 9000? No — but the difference is noticeable, and it might help reassure you about your purchase. Whether fitting a new set of SH91 blades on the Prestige 9000 would improve its performance? I honestly don’t know — but I wouldn’t be surprised if it does. It may not match this newer model exactly, but it could be a very interesting middle ground. I hope this helps someone! If you’ve got questions, I’d be happy to answer.

r/shaving · Which shavers are best suited for several days between shaves?

Philips claims their Prestige s9000 model handles 5-7 days also. It’s similarly priced to the Braun. I have one and like it. I usually only go 2-3 days at most between shaves, but I have tried it on a 5 day beard and it worked. I definitely had to go over it a lot more times than usual, which negates a lot of the usual speediness advantage of electric shavers. A safety razor might be easier and faster if you regularly go that long between shaves. For under 2 days between shaves, the Philips is much faster than a DE razor.

r/shaving · Philips series 7000 vs 9000: real advantage? Or switch to other product?

I can't comment about the Braun or Panasonic, but I just recently compared a Norelco 7600 vs 9000 Prestige for a few weeks. The 9000 lets me shave a little faster, and maybe gives a closer shave too. Also the sideburn trimmer for the 9000 Prestige works a lot better. It's less convenient because it's an attachment that you have to switch to from the shaver head, but it works so much better than the popup trimmer that it's worth it. That said, I found the 7600 works very well, and at 1/3 the price it would be hard for me to recommend the 9000 Prestige over the 7000 if spending the extra money is an issue. However if you're getting it on a good enough sale then I'd go for the Prestige.

r/shaving · What electric shaver gives the absolute closest shave of all?

How well does the Arc 6 do shaving the neck? How many passes does the Arc 6 require? I have the Philips Norelco S9000 Prestige rotary and it is very good on the neck, typically only requires one pass, and shaves reasonably close. The poor durability of the Braun Series 9 Pro+ foils eliminates it as an option for me. Thanks.

r/shaving · Ingrown hair electric razor help!

I’m in the same boat as you, have to be clean shaven, I’m just hoping to see some decent answers to this question. I got a Philips Prestige S9000 and a one blade for edging. I’m still getting ingrown hairs although way less than when I was using a double safety razor. My barber says I may not be able to be clean shaven with no ingrowns….

    r/shaving · Best electric razor/shaver?

I bought the Philips Prestige 9000, im using it for like a week now and my skin absolutely doesnt like this electric shaver, no matter how careful I am and which speed I use. Is the Braun 9 pro better for sensitive skin? If not, I will stick forever to 1mm trimmer.

r/shaving · Absolute closest shave electric razor?

Braun Series 9 Pro. Closest but If I use every day I can get irritation. Philips 9000 prestige, can use every day, super comfortable, not as close though. I have an Arc 5 and it's great but not as close as the Braun. Also 2 Braun series 7 pro and they are pretty good too.

r/shaving · Razor to die for?

Had Braun series 7 for years and was very unhappy, I honestly thought this is how shaving looks like and I hated it. Got myself Phillips 9000 prestige and it's a life changing experience. I heard both are great but Braun seem to struggle when you don't grow hair in a single direction - at least that's my impression.

    r/shaving · Face shaving

I just got A Norelco 9000 Prestige blue special.Big bucks but a nice close shave with no nicks or razor burns. Unfortunately it comes with a nose and ear trimmer so now my wife wants me to shave my nose hair which has been my pride and joy for years. Anyway, there are other high rated brands out there but consider on buying a more expensive model which tends to be rated higher on performance.

r/shaving · Philips series 7000 vs 9000: real advantage? Or switch to other product?

I got recently S9000 prestige and before that I used the Philips 5000. Firstly, I got that on sales otherwise I couldn’t justify myself to pay full price, I get very clean shave with that, but I believe it was a guy comparing 7000 and 9000, and apparently both using same blade, in conclusion I will get the one has lower price if I were you.

I have the regular 9000 prestige. [Electric shaver - Series 9000 | Philips](https://www.philips.ca/c-e/pe/face-shavers/s9000-prestige.html). But it's oddly still struggling around my neck. So that's why I'm considering a swap atm too if the braun series 9 would be a better alternative or not.

r/shaving · Why do people use electric razors?

I have been using electric razors for over 40 years now. Occasionally use a blade but electric is so much more convenient. Can shave in a matter of minutes with no mess. And electric razors have come on so much over the years if you spend a little more. I currently use the Phillips Prestige S9000 and while a little pricey it's by far the best I have used and cuts really close to the skin.

r/shaving · Best electric shaver for face?

I tested the Philips S9000 Prestige and Braun Series 9 Pro+. The Philips gave me badly irritated skin on my throat-area even after weeks. The Braun, when used correctly, gives way less irritation and provides a cleaner shave, as well. Also use pre-shave lotion as well as an after-shave lotion.

r/shaving · Is Braun 9 Pro better for sensitive skin?

Second to this. My beard is not thick, more like a teenager one. Had to pass it 6-7 to get a clean shave. The shaver had a lot of trouble with 4 or 5 plain hairs. Also it’s very big. Just returned it.

    r/shaving · I need help shaving

So I’ve been in the navy for over a decade and a half and dealing with this. Super sensitive skin went through every method I could find. Well just so happens I was blessed with the balding gene and made the plunge a couple years ago. I pulled the trigger on the nicest electric razor Phillips makes (prestige 9000 series) because I was desperate to not have my bald head breaking out. Let me tell you it is a great machine. I can do a rush job completely dry on both face and head and not get any irritation. Granted it will run $300, well worth investment for me. Had to replace blades after about a year but I shave everyday, head and face. Replacement blades are $50.
