r/shaving · Need advice: Switching from Philips S3000, looking for the best shaver for sensitive neck As someone who owns all three of these as has a sensitive neck, you aren’t going to like my answer… try them all. Braun Series 9: many people say that this is the best shaver for sensitive skin. While I’m sure that’s the case for many, it absolutely tears my neck up. But that might not be the case for you. Philips i9000 Presitge Ultra: this is what I have but will be very similar to the S900. This tends to work better for my skin. Still not perfect, but best I can find. Philips OneBlade: this I used for touch ups or if I just want to line my neck up and keep a beard. I would never use only this the shave my full face with nothing else behind it to clean it up. It can be very useful though. My honest opinion is that I would try one that you think could work and use it for a couple of weeks. If you don’t like it, return it and move on to the next one.

I researched some reviews and bought a Phillips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. Yes, it was pricey and I splurged but it is so much better. Quicker, closer shave without having to endlessly go over the same spots.

Recently, I became less satisfied with results and started reading reviews of alternate razors. I splurged and bought a Phillips i9000 Prestige Ultra and I'm very happy with it. Very surprised at how It not only shaves me closer but I spend a lot less time going over the same areas.

I recently bought a Phillips i9000 rotary and it delivers a much closer shave but when I first started using it, I got a bleeder on my neck. Never had that happen before but I guess that shows how close the Phillips shaves. I learned to be a little more careful and it hasn't happened again.

I was skeptical of rotary shavers but read some good things about the Phillips i9000 so I bought one. It was expensive but I'm very impressed with how quickly it gets the job done while being whisper quiet. I feel my shaves are closer than with the Braun.

r/shaving · Question about acclimating to electric shaver It does tee ake time for your skin to acclimate to different razors and shavers. I use a razor primarily as well and have not had a shaver that shaves well and keeps irritation to a minimum. I have given each shaver ebtynof time : years to let my skin acclimate. Today of all days I got the new Panasonic /Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. First shave just a little while ago was the best shave I have had since I was young with a less sensitive face and less need for a heavy duty cut. I wasn't expecting to like it, but I am more than impressed. With the way this works I will be switching over as a N every day full time shaver. My lady said it feels like the cliseness/smoothness of a razor while she noticed I don't have the normal redness and bumps from irritation.

r/shaving · Braun Nevo Reviews? It’s just like the S9 Pro+. Here’s the weird thing. I have super sensitive skin. The best way for me to use it is “dry” with Lectric pre-shave lotion. Close, smooth, comfortable shave. But I still get redness on the neck. You won’t believe this, but Panasonic ARC6 is superior. Closer, smoother, more comfortable, quicker, and actually quieter too, despite having more blades. It does have a bulky head with all the foils, but it’s still super easy for me to get all areas - especially right under the nose. ARC6 all the way! I also tried the Philips top one (I9000 Prestige Ultra) - it just cut me up so bad. It also wasn’t as smooth as the ARC6 experience.

It's only the first shave, and I feel I want to try it for at least 2 weeks to see how my skin adjusts etc., but here's my immediate first impression. Overall, very impressed. Very smooth, close, comfortable, and quiet. All of these are improvements over the S9 Pro+ to me. I always have to go in different directions on the neck and do a few more passes than the face, but that's always been the case for me if I want a close/decent shave. I didn't use any pre-shave lotion for this shave though, just totally dry. I do have Lectric pre-shave lotion for electric shaving, but I wanted to see how it was totally dry first. I will probably use Lectric moving forward, though, since I do have sensitive skin. There is a small patch of hair on my neck between the chin and the adam's apple that the shaver just doesn't seem to be catching (the middle, vertical line of the neck, if that makes sense?), but that's an issue I seem to have with every shaver. \*Maybe\* I could have eliminated those hairs with more aggression and pressure, but for the first shave I really just wanted to avoid anything like that—and the risk of serious irritation and redness—and I'm glad I did. I'm hoping that very small neck patch issue might improve as my skin (and my technique) adjusts. The thing that's really amazing me, though is that overall this shave was very smooth, close, quick, and quiet...AND even though I have some redness on my lower neck, I don't FEEL anything: no pain or irritation at all. Also, no bleeding or anything like that. This is a huge plus, especially comparing the Philips I9000 Prestige Ultra, which absolutely cuts me up every time. Since I applied Nivea sensitive post-shave balm (after rinsing and drying the face and neck), the redness on my neck is already going down. Right now, just very gently running my fingers over my face and neck, about 15 minutes post-shave, I'm seriously impressed and overjoyed at the closeness and ultimate end result. Very good shaver here, guys. This one is a keeper for sure.

r/shaving · Suggestions for a good electric shaver? I have a braun series 9 Pro and a Philips i9000 prestige ultra. The braun can handle my 3 day growth easily, struggles a bit with a 4 day, pulls and tugs with a 5 day. The Philips can handle my 5 day without too much trouble. But the Philips isn’t as close a shave for me as the Braun and it does cause some irritation esp below the jawline. I still keep a Philips OneBlade to trim down before shaving if I have a 5+ day growth.
r/shaving · Philips series 9000 vs braun series 9 The good news is that both non-Ultra and Ultra i9000 Prestige performed the exact same on my face in terms of shave closeness, comfort and speed. The Ultra felt nicer to hold, a bit more ergonomic. Initially I thought I liked the built-in trimmer on the non-Ultra but the built in one sometimes would accidentally fold in when using it at certain angles to get difficult hairs, so in practice I actually ended up preferring the separate trimmer head on the Ultra. Now, the bad. After the first few days I just started to get bad irritations and cuts on my neck area and around the jawline, the exact areas where I initially thought the Philips did really well at. I can't explain whether it's technique or something else. I started using Lectric pre-shave and that did improve things but only marginally. I ended up just sending the Philips back, I guess rotaries just aren't suits to my face. Sadly I had already sold my old series 9 on marketplace so I was without a shaver. This week I was at my local Costco and saw they just started carrying a Costco-sku series 9 that's new for Canadian Costco at least - model 9320cc. I just used it last night and it gave me a much closer shave than either of the Philips and being a new cartridge it did well on my neck too. No irritations so far either. As disappointed as I was with the Philips, I still liked a lot about their new shavers. But at the end of the day I guess a foil shaver is what works best for my face/skin/stubble.
r/shaving · Philips series 9000 vs braun series 9 Braun Series 9 user here who recently purchased the Philips i9000 Prestige (both ultra and non-ultra). Although I also have in grown issues on my neck and sensitive skin, I switched for different reasons. The Braun for me just didn't do well on the neck as my neck stubble grows in different directions, sideways, with lots of flat laying hairs. I had to do so many passes with the Braun, from every angle you can imagine, and it still didn't clean my neck proper. The new Philips shines here. It cleans up my neck area superbly but I've only been using it for a couple of weeks, still in the adjustment period and my technique isn't great so while my neck is doing much better, it's too early to tell. It can still irritate my neck if I over do it. One other negative for me with the Braun series 9 was that even though Braun advertises that you can easily shave a 7 day growth, in reality for me at least any growth that's more that 3 days it would tug and pull causing more irritation. The i9000 also excels here; I tried a 5 day growth shave with the Philips and it did it with ease without a single pull or tug.

r/shaving · Philips i9000 Questions Not the OP but I currently have both the non-ultra i9000 (XP9201/20) and the Ultra (XP9402/31). These models/kits may be region specific. Philips Canada gives us 30 days to try so I'm testing both. The kits I got are similarly equipped (travel case, brush, cleaning system etc..). Both are the same gen and use the same head. I'm having a tough time which one to keep. Even though I paid slightly more for the ultra, it wasn't much more - Philips had a larger discount on the Ultra recently. Both have pros and cons. The ultra feels slightly more ergonomic at the cost of removing the pop-up trimmer; I love the built-in trimmer on the non-ultra. The larger travel case that came with the Ultra is nicer, and fits all the accessories (trimmer, charging cable etc.) while the smaller case with the non-ultra can barely fit the tiny cleaning brush. Shave performance for me has been identical - the ultra has a faster motor capacity for the intense shave setting but have't used it or I should say I haven't needed to use it. Both units seem to drain the battery when the Philips app is running (on iOS at least) even when not in use. I found that force-closing the app fixed the battery drain issue. I'm leaning slightly towards the ultra (nicer case, better ergonomics, more customizations and settings) but the non-ultra, especially if it's noticeably cheaper, is a very compelling choice.

r/shaving · Ordered a Philjps Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. Mistake? I switched from philips to braun and had prestige ultra for a short period of time. I don't think prestige ultra worth the money but for me personally it was a much better shave than braun series 9 pro +. With braun I have to do more rounds and it's quite tricky to shave area directly under my nose I never had issues shaving with Philips. I'm thinking about switching back to Philips, but regular prestige model

r/shaving · I'm tired of electric razors Ive shave daily and have dense stubble. Ive tried every top of the line electric on the market. Nothing will give you a smooth shave as close as a razor. And going over and over your face trying to get it will just lead to more irritation. If you are chasing a BBS shave, you are gonna have to use a razor not an electric. That being said… The absolute closest I can get with an electric is a braun 9 or phillips prestige ultra i9000, wet shaving in the shower with a good shaving soap. That gives me a good shave, but not a BBS shave. Basically the equivalent of a 2 pass shave, with almost no irritation. I then follow it up with an against the grain pass with a razor to get any stubble the electric struggles to get (usually my neck). When I do this and combine the two, I get a great shave with less irritation than a standard 3 pass razor shave. Hope that helps
r/shaving · I9000 ultra Phillips When wet shaving, Im using shaving soap. But you can use shaving gel too. I tried it with Harrys shave gel and it was still just as great of a shave. But I think using barrister and mann soap applied with a brush was still slicker. Ive tried dry shaving with spiek, which i use when shaving my head. Had less irritation than the braun and a better shave than the braun, but still had irritation. I just dont think my face is made for dry shaving with an electric. There is a “sensitive” mode, I may try that as a trial one of these days to see when I need a quick dry shave.
r/shaving · I9000 ultra Phillips I have thick stubble and my neck is very sensitive. Frankly as a wet shaver, the prestige ultra is the best electric shaver Ive ever had for my face. I still like dry shaving with a braun 9 on my head, it gives me a closer head shave. But doesnt give me nearly as close shave on my neck at all and I get tons of irritation both wet and dry with the braun 9. Wet shaving with a prestige ultra gives me a closer shave than a 3 pass shave with a henson safety razor. With ZERO irritation compared to a safety razor or cartridge. Its nearly, but not completely, a BBS shave with the norelco alone. I then do a quick pass against the grain with a razor to get any stragglers. Shaving this way has led me to the closest most comfortable shave Ive had in years. I think its bc when I shave with a razor the hair on my neck grows in so many different directions that I get so much irritation but the rotary shaver takes care of 99% of it flawlessly without irritation before I make one light pass with the blade. I could skip a second quick pass with a blade to clean up a few spots and still get a great shave, but Im finally getting BBS shaves that lasts all day with absolutely no irritation doing it this way.

I've used the cleaning pod about 3 times and it already said replace so I assumed it was a bug! I also noticed that in the app, the life of the shaving heads seems to be going down 1% every time I use the shaver, so it's currently on 97% after only 3 shaves - I guess it's either a bug too or it'll slow down after a few more uses :) Apart from that, I love the shaver! It might take me a little while to get used to it/the technique to avoid irritation and making sure I get all the hairs, but it seems great.

Up to a few years ago they lasted the 18 months easily. My last three was 4 months, 13 months and then 6 months. I'm hoping then Philips rotary blades last two years. So far happy with the swap to Philips.

r/shaving · Braun Series 9 Pro+ Head Worn Out After 8 months I have been using my Braun Series 9 for years now. Only over the last 2 years have I found the shaver heads not lasting over a year. So something must be up. I don't believe i'm shaving any different to what I was doing a few years back. But one shavign head got a hole in it after 3-4 months. The replacement lasted 13 months. My new one I put on a few months is beginning to nick me, so i'm assuming there may be a hole developing. I thought stuff it, and went and got a Philips i9000. Philips has a 90 day refund thing going on, so I can try it and if I don't like it return it. So far it gives me a really close shave, as good as the Braun, and I hope the rotary blades will last longer than the Braun shaving heads.

r/shaving · Phillips i9000 v Braun Series 9 Pro I'm opening up my i9000, rinsing the loose hairs from the head under the tap, then putting it in the cleaning station. Seems to work for me so far. I do similar things with my Braun Series 9 though. I would pop off the foil, run it under the tap, then use the cleaning station. I found by doing this less hair goes into the cleaning cartridge, and the smell seem to stay fresher for longer.

You need to give it some time for your face to adjust. Here you get 90 days to return your shaver if it isn't working for you. Give it a bit more time and see if things adjust. I swapped from a Braun series 9, and i'm finding the philips I think is smoother and lasting longer for me.

The i9000 just worked better for me. No razor burn at all. Works fantastic on my head and my neck area. I had issues with the Braun on my head and around my neck. So I returned it and kept the I 9000.

r/SkincareAddiction · [Hair Removal] How to shave (with an electric) without getting razor burn and ingrown hairs on your neck? I am super prone to ingrowns and irritation (curly hair). I have tried pretty much every single shaving product out there; gillette cartidges, DE safety razors (Merkur's, Razorock, Henson etc.), straight razors, foil shavers (Braun Series 9) and rotary (Philips i9000 Prestige). Pretty much the top of the line product for each catagory, and they all gave me ingrowns and irritation, and I promise you I was using them with good technique. The only product that has worked is the Philips OneBlade. It is not the closest shave (Gives you about 80% of a bladed shave, which is what you want if you are prone to ingrowns), but I now have zero irritation and only the rare occasional ingrown. Issues are that it is much more expensive then the other methods long term, but I am willing to make that sacrifice to be actually able to shave.

It feels more responsive, like it’s factoring in more data and doing so smarter — especially with shaving angle. I really, really like it. Noise Some say it's quieter than the Series 9000. Personally, I haven't noticed much of a difference. It does have different power settings, and yes — some are noisier than others. Makes sense. No complaints overall. Beard Trimmer I only use it to shape my sideburns, and while it’s better than the one on the Prestige 9000 (which was terrible), it still doesn't quite deliver. Maybe I’m expecting too much? Haven’t used it on a beard (I don’t have one), but it has five adjustable length settings, which is a nice feature. Battery Life Brilliant, as usual. It uses around 5–7% for a 5–6 minute shave. Screen Very nice. Even if mostly cosmetic, it’s a welcome improvement over the previous model. Accessories I won’t go into detail about what’s included — you can check that on the product page — but I will comment on what’s missing. No charger included — seriously, why? These are premium products (the 9404/06 is EUR 449 with an EUR 80 cashback), and the box is huge, so space isn't an excuse. Leaving out a charger that costs EUR 20 is just cheap — yes, I know it’s a cost-saving move, but still. No travel pouch in the 9404/06 — which is a real shame. The UV station doesn’t replace it: it's bulky and sturdy, and transporting it risks damaging it. The UV station itself looks nice and is a practical way to charge the machine, but I’m still unsure if I’d keep it in the bathroom. If it falls, it’s likely to break. The old charger was smaller, easier to store in a drawer, and perfect for everyday use. The UV station just feels like too much for that. The cleaning pod is the same as before — nothing new there. Warranty 7-year warranty — a big move from Philips and a huge benefit. That alone might justify the missing charger. Whether we'll actually use this machine for seven years... that's another question. App & AI Features Haven’t tried them yet, but I’ll update this post once I do. Conclusion Great shaver. Excellent warranty. Solid value — especially if you pick a version other than the 9404/06. I'm not saying this model isn’t worth it, but leaving out the travel pouch in favor of the UV station doesn’t feel like a smart move to me. If possible, I’d prioritize a version that includes it. Does this shaver completely outperform the Series 9000? No — but the difference is noticeable, and it might help reassure you about your purchase. Whether fitting a new set of SH91 blades on the Prestige 9000 would improve its performance? I honestly don’t know — but I wouldn’t be surprised if it does. It may not match this newer model exactly, but it could be a very interesting middle ground. I hope this helps someone! If you’ve got questions, I’d be happy to answer.

They're not all the same, in the sense that Philips has been evolving them without changing the part number. So, there’s no such thing as “SH91 v2,” but the SH91 blades that came with the Series 9000 two years ago are not the same as the ones included with the Series i9000 Prestige we’re discussing here. I’m not a professional reviewer — just sharing my thoughts like a friend would — and leaving this here because I know some people will find themselves in the same position I was in: looking for first-hand information that isn’t easy to find online. Straight to the point: Overall Impression It does what it promises — a clean, close shave with very little effort. And honestly, that’s what matters most. However, cleaning the shaving heads when using foam is still messy — nothing has changed in that regard. Philips really needs to improve the UX here or provide a better brush. Don’t get me wrong: the process works fine, but you still have to manually remove foam from the heads with a tiny brush. What seems to make a noticeable difference is the shape of the shaving head — slightly smaller and better angled, which seems key. As for the materials, whether they reduce friction with the skin — I’m not sure yet. I haven’t noticed a difference.

r/BuyItForLife · Best electric face shaver to buy now? I've got a Braun Series 9 and while it's good, it doesn't give me the best shave. I also have a Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Series and that is by far the best electric shaver I've ever used. It gives me the closest shave I've had with an electric. I can't say if it's BIFL but I've had no problems in the 3 years I've had it. Just rinse it after each use and clean it in the included stand cleaner at least weekly.

r/shaving · Ordered a Philjps Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. Mistake? I've had Braun 9pro, arc 6, Phillips one blade, a Henson DE razor, and now the prestige ultra. I can get closest with the DE but it takes the most time and effort and usually results in me bleeding Arc 6 gets second closest, but requires that I shave every day. The first few 2 or 3 months, I can go 2-3 days but then the blades start to go. Phillips One blade works on 3-4 days but doesn't get close. So far, I've had the Prestige ultra for a month and I can get through 4-5 days of growth much easier than any other and can get almost as close as with the arc 6. Best set up is prestige ultra for when you let it get long and then an arc 5 or 6 to get even smoother with a few quick swipes.

Namely, I bought the Braun S5, but since I had no experience with electric razors, I shaved a two-week beard and of course I struggled and was disappointed. I usually shave every 3-4 days, so I tried the S5 a few more times, but I always end up with patches under ears and on jawline. I bought the Philips i9000 Prestige few weeks later and I was initially delighted. I had a very comfortable shave, there were no leftover hairs, but I had to go over it several times to achieve the smoothness that I got with the S5. Yesterday morning I ended up with a red rash on the neck, while after the first few shaves I felt like I didn't even need aftershave balm and it seems like I need even more time to shave smoothly. I got the device a few weeks ago so the blades are still sharp, and I regularly use the cleaning pod. I'm now thinking about buying a Braun S9 Pro+, and I'm even thinking about pretending that my brother gave it to me as a gift so people don't think I'm crazy for having 3 shavers... But it makes me feel better to see that I'm not the only one, although I'm sure you didn't buy all 3 in the span of a month.
r/shaving · Philips i9000 - Prestige vs. Prestige Ultra That's odd. I bought a Braun S5 few weeks ago, and I was really struggling with leftover hair, especially on my neck and jawline. Then I bought the Philips i9000 Prestige (XP9201/33 version) and not only is it incomparably more comfortable to shave, but I manage to shave almost everything in one pass. I shave jawline and neck much easier with the Philips. I'd say the Braun shaves closer, but even after shaving with the Philips I get a smooth, close shave - it actually shaves me closer than the Gillette Fusion 5, noting that I don't shave against the hair with the Gillette due to sensitive skin.

r/shaving · Pretty disappointed with the Philips i9000 Prestige Yea I ended up returning it back to Philips. It really unperformed on my neck and chin I tried dry, wet, shaving cream, pre-shave oil. Moving it back and forth, clockwise, counterclockwise in all directions. The light was always in the green. I just ended up with red skin and missed hairs. Going to get a Panasonic Arc 6 (900+) instead.

And almost close to a BBS. Also love the charging stand. If you're like me and chase a BBS then finishing off with a DE razor is what I do.

I always have had issues with a day old stubble which would never be nicely shaved with the 3-series. Had to resort to Gillette Labs manual razor which always irritated the skin. That’s the part I no longer miss with the i9000. Also love the charging stand which looks so clean and organized.

It's pricey but it does the job. I can dry shave and get baby smooth skin. I have thick whiskers that grow in multiple directions and a round fat face.

I got my Philips ultra I have used top brands and I presently have Braun series 9 pro , Panasonic arc 6 and also Philips ultra i9000. To be honest I have used all three no.1 rank goes to Braun no.2 rank goes to Panasonic both are for sensitive skin no burning and cuts after shave but Philips prestige ultra gave me burning and cuts after shave. Philips prestige atleast not for me may work for others thank you.

I noticed my phone stays connected to the shaver when i keep the app open. however this drains the battery pretty fast (abt 20% in 6hrs), which apparently should not be the case when the Bluetooth is in standby . (when i cut the connection, no drain occurs) do you guys experience the same ? Also; sometimes when i pick up the shaver the screen comes on by itself, other times i have to push the menu button first. Can you confirm that this is not normal?

Every 3 to 4 days I shave my head with my hair Wahl trimmer. That shaves close to 0. Or either I received a faulty unit, or this trimmer will only work if you have longer hair/sideburns. For me to get a nice defined sideburn line I have to resort to my Wahl or DE blade

r/shaving · Been a manual shaver for 20+ years... did I miss something in the electric world? I bought the $400 Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra and used it for the first time today. I'm never going back to manual shaving. The shave was closer than what I got with a DE razor and so much easier around my chin. Absolutely no cuts. My first time I went slow as I was learning, but it will easily save me time and effort. The Costco one came with replacement blades that should be swapped every 2 years, so I'm set for the next 4 years. I can't wait to shave tomorrow!

I’ve always used Phillips and when my old shaver broke I bought a 7000 series 10 years ago for cheap 120$ never loved it but it was fine blades are discontinued. For years I’ve been thinking of upgrading and was trying to decide Braun top of the line or Phillips. Since the i9000 had such good reviews and I’ve had Phillips before went with it. First shave felt rough on the skin probably cause it was cutting way closer than i was use to with other shaver. And since then hasnt been a problem. Probably cant go wrong wither way would love to try a braun one day to.

Shall I try Philips 9000 I shared a similar post on ShaverShack and Ovidiu, the owner of the website, responded meticulously and -as expected- diplomatically. TLDR; Foil shavers and especially Series 9 is THE electric shaver for sensitive skin. But if that doesn’t work and taking into consideration the reasons why, Philips i9000 could potentially get the job done. They are the top of the two worlds, if neither works then nothing to be done. I decided that it worths the gamble and today Philips i9000 arrived. The materials are definitely inferior of the Braun. The app is very helpful, guiding pressure motion and duration. First usage: OK No irritation 🎉, no hair islands left, so I consider it already a win. On the downside, the shave is quite uneven (to the touch not to the eye) and mostly not as close as the Braun. The are difficult spots where Philips aced, like the neck next the Adam’s apple. The app report says that I didn’t apply enough pressure -Braun left some muscle memory- so next time I will be hitting harder see how it goes. I started with the normal speed, not the sensitive BTW. I will be posting more info for anyone that is in the same predicament.

r/shaving · Has someone already tried out the new Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra? I've had exactly the same issue with my i9000. The battery drain was terrible. I thought the shaver was faulty so had it replaced. The new one was exactly the same. I reset Bluetooth on the shaver and tracked battery drain. It was great. Re-paired with the GroomTribe app on my iPhone and bam, terrible battery life again. I will try pairing it again, but this time kill the app on the iPhone when I come out of it. Shouldn't have to do that, but let me try and report back.

I would say the Arc 5 and the Norelco i9000 are similar in terms of closeness. I tried the Braun 9 series and it did a terrible job on my neck both wet and dry. The Arc 5 does cut close but irritated my neck to get a close shave. With the i9000 I am now getting a close shave with no irritation (so far). Just completed my first week but so far I really like it. Of course everyone’s skin and beard is different and everyone has their own experiences. But over the past 20+ years of using electric, this is the best so far for me. Good luck.

r/shaving · Electric razors that shave like blades? After doing hours and weeks of research, I got my son the Phillips I-9000 prestige through Costco. I did not get the Ulta because of the trimmer issue but I got the prestige through Costco because they have such an awesome return policy and he says it’s insane and I have to say the shave is really close. You can’t even feel anything and it looks really good. I did not go with the Braun or the arc five because of all the research I did they both sounded like they wouldn’t be as good as this one for one reason or another. The main thing with the Braun was that shaving. The neck is not that great and the arc five seems to be not made that well anymore so anyhow, we are very happy with this one for what it’s worth.

So happy to be done spending at least $25 a month on blades. 6 months and the electric is paid for, $70 to replace the blades once a year and $30-40 bucks in cleaning pods, which you can find cheaper than the Phillips ones or apparently make your own.

I know many people say Braun is more comfortable than Panasonic, but for my Braun causes more irritation because I’m pressing so hard to get a close shave. With Panasonic you get a close shave without pressure and therefore less irritation. Philip for me is not even an option because it’s not close enough.

I tend to let my facial hair grow out a tad too much for it to then be effective. I then took up safety blade shaving, further reducing how often I'll use the i9000. In retrospect, and with nothing against the product, it wasn't the best purchase for myself. Still, I do use it here and there, for a quick touchup when I don't want to be bothered with the ordeal that the safety blade entails.

I was going to get the Braun but too may bad comments from reviews with similar issues. I just bought a Rockwell 6s as a highly rated safety razor and had a first shave and it’s already miles better than the electrics. Will just maintain beard with this as don’t think the electrics are that good. By the time you use it and then clean it in the liquid and then air dry when it’s open and closed and watch it etc it ends up being the same time as doing a normal shave

After shaving, I open mine up, tap out the hairs, add a drop of dish soap on the back of each rotary blade, run it under water, open it up and rinse out each rotary unit, and dry. Take about 2-3 minutes and the head is completely spotless.
r/shaving · Cleaning and oiling I've been using mine on my face and head for a few years and my routine is admittedly extreme, but it's been working well for me. After each shave, I open my Philips i9000 up, tap all the loose hairs out, then put a drop of dish soap on each rotary head. Then I run it for a couple seconds dry, then run it in water until the soap stops running out. Then I'll open it up and disassemble each head completely, rinsing the last residue under water. They are sparkling clean at this point. I only separate the cutter and foil during this final rinsing and keep them together otherwise. Then I lay them (cutters in the heads but out of the frame) out to dry and reassemble later in the day or the next day after they are completely dry. Recently I've started lubing them with an eye drop bottle filled with 25% mineral oil and 75% pure alcohol which I shake up before putting a drop of the solution on each head while running it right after assembling and well before my next shave. I can definitely feel the difference from this lubing. This lube is completely removed from the cleaning so I apply it right after assembly. When I first had an electric shaver, I did the minimum cleaning and after a month or so, the heads started smelling a bit rancid and I was never able to get the smell out, no matter how thoroughly I cleaned. With this routine, my heads a sparkling clean right after each shave. I consider the time of cleaning to be part of the time of shaving.
r/shaving · Electric razor I typically shave my head and face every other day or so. I've used both blades and electric. For blades, I like the HeadBlade 4 followed up my a Gillette Atra (almost always in the shower). For electric, I like the rotary Philps i9000, I'll wash my head and face, dry, shave, rinse, after-shave. My blades give me a much closer shave. Probably 8-12 hours worth of growth or so. You can get a really close shave with an electric, but it still falls a bit short of a really proper blade shave.

I got mine just a week ago and noticed pretty strong battery drain, did initially suspect that there may be a fault, but did eventually veer more to continuous Bluetooth connection being the culprit. Putting the shaver into travel lock mode seems to the cut the Bluetooth connection (app displays an connection error message), so that may be a work-around. The app itself seems to have limited usefulness beyond displaying some simple statistics that tell you how long you applied the correct amount of pressure and motion while shaving. I am thinking of getting rid of the app altogether. I will get to know the shaver over time and become better and more efficient at using it. I don't think the app is really needed.

Takes more passes too than the Braun as well. Im mostly a foil shaver guy though, so maybe my inexperience with rotary shaver explains the results and I need to apply more pressure, but then I feel like I’d knick myself even more. It does sound nice and quiet though.

And after trying (and returning) the i9000, it's weird, it shaves close but after like 2 hours you can see that short stubble that makes you feel like "why the heck did I spend this money for a shave that doesn't even last for a whole day". So you are probably better off with the S9.

I realized I wasn't making sure the rotary heads were flat against my neck skin. That's what I'll try to fix next time... I was impressed with how it shaved my face, though, so I'm going to try technique fixes before moving to a different unit. This is my first time with a rotary. On my face, it seemed a lot more gentle than my Braun S9 foil.

r/shaving · Ordered a Philjps Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. Mistake? I have the prestige ultra as well and it’s a great shaver. Prolly one of the most comfortable I’ve used and l have sensitive skin. I will say I just got the Braun s9 pro + and I like them both. I think the Braun leaves a smoother feel and cuts closer, but the Phillips is more comfortable and still cuts close. The Braun tends to cause more irritation for me. I do use a pre shave with both of them though. I think you just need to find what works best for your skin and face.

Nur wenn ich ihm von Bluetooth-Trenne , verbraucht er keine Akku Leistung. Er scheint immer mit Bluetooth verbunden zu sein, im Moment hilft wohl nur , ihn vom Bluetooth zu trennen. Hab mich beim Support von Philips schon beschwert, mal sehen ob ein Update kommt. Sehr für so ein teures Gerät. Es ist schon mein 2 , der erste hatte genau das gleiche Problem.

For as often as you need to shave, get yourself a good electric. I tried wet shaving and found it to be a big mess, that's when I started buying electrics. I settled on the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. Wonderfully smooth and QUIET!
The newer, more expensive shavers are alleged to shave even seven days of growth! Though I generally don't let my beard go for any more than three days. I have several high end electric shavers, and I get good performance out of all of them. I prefer the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, mainly because it is so quiet. The only drawback is that it shaves so close that it abrades the skin! My skin stings after a shave, and really stings after an application of Witch Hazel. The Witch Hazel takes away the redness, and my face is more comfortable shortly afterwards. If I'm not concerned with getting that close, I'll use my Panasonic Arc 5, or Braun Series 9 Pro+. I just use whatever I'm in the mood for. I tried a good safety razor with Feather blades too. Close, yes, but what a MESS! And the clean-up afterwards! No thank you.

My Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra shaves skin close. I have a Panasonic Arc 5 and it's a toss-up.
I have the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, and I really like how quiet and how closely it shaves. I also have a Philips Norelco 2400. It is even quieter than the i9000, and shaves almost as close as the i9000. If you're looking for a budget shaver, I can easily recommend Philips lower priced offerings. Incidentally, I also have a Philips S6600 that I picked up on Amazon as 'Renewed'. It is also a very impressive shaver.
I like my Vanish, but I think it shaves a little too close, causing irritation. So I just use either my Panasonic Arc 5 or my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. Both of those give an acceptably close shave with very little irritation, if any.
When I first started using the Norelco, it made my neck raw, but I gave it a chance. I waited two days and then used my Braun Series 9 Pro+ to shave. I waited a couple more days and then used the Norelco with no problems. The above being said; the i9000 shaves quite close. So much so that I still find it necessary to use an alum block and then some Thayer's Witch Hazel and finish up with some Nivea aftershave balm after each session. My face and neck will sting upon application of those products, but the next day things are all healed up. All in all I am quite pleased with the results of this shaver, and am willing to go through the ritual afterwards to achieve that degree of closeness. If I keep going over the areas with the Braun to try to achieve this degree of closeness, I will still find it necessary to use the alum block and everything else to repair the skin. The Braun Series 9 Pro+ is a great shaver. I just prefer the Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra for the smoothness against my skin.
Having both types of shavers, I can say from personal experience that a foil will be easier on your skin, at least to start out with. If you give a rotary enough time for your skin to become conditioned to it, you will find the rotary to be more comfortable. That has been my experience. Still, with either a close shaving foil, or any rotary, you shouldn't go over any area too many times or you will break the skin. Not enough to where it bleeds, but enough to where an astringent, such as Witch Hazel, and/or an aftershave balm will make your skin sting, meaning that a layer of skin has been broken. For most men this is not an issue, it's just a part of life. But given your propensity for a severe reaction to shaving, it's a decision only you can make. As far as closeness goes, I had settled on the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, at least until I tried the Panasonic Arc 5 foil shaver. While not Panasonic's best shaver, I think it shaves as close as, or closer than the Norelco. You still have to be careful about going over an area too many times, especially when first starting out with any electric shaver. The more you shave with one, the easier it gets. I still occasionally use a double-edged razor, if only to remind myself how much I like my Norelco and/or my Braun Series 9 Pro+, or my Panasonic. Another thing to consider about the higher priced models is that you don't have to go over the same areas as much as with the lower priced ones because the costlier ones shave closer with each pass, meaning fewer trips over the same areas to achieve the desired results. Good luck. I thought I had difficulties until I read your story. Now, not so much.
I have a 9 Pro+, and I thought it was great, too, until I bought the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. It shaves so close that it requires considerable aftershave treatments. I love it, but I don't use it that often. I use lower priced models from both Braun and Philips, which still give better than acceptable results. But when I want a premium shave, I go for the i9000 Ultra.
I'm experimenting with electric shavers. I started out with the Braun Series 7 360 Turbo and thought it did quite well. Then I went to the Braun Series 9 Pro+, and it was a little closer but the biggest difference was comfort, the 9 being more comfortable than the 7. Then I wanted to try the rotary, so I picked up a Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. I think it shaves closer than the Braun. It is also a lot more comfortable against my skin. However it does shave really close. My skin feels a little raw after going for the BBS. So much so that I use an alum block and then some Thayer's Witch Hazel, and then I finish up with some Nivea aftershave balm. My skin is left stinging after using those products, which tells me that the shave really was that close. Next I am going to try the 'bottom end' of the Braun and Philips line of shavers. Arriving this week are the Braun Series 3 and a Philips Norelco 2400. I tell myself that there must be a point where one of these foil and rotary shavers don't perform as well as their respective higher end stablemates do. I will try to find this thread again so that I can report back with my findings.
I have both the Braun Series 9 Pro+ and the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. The Braun DOES shave really close, but so does the Norelco, and I prefer it to the Braun because the Norelco is more comfortable against my skin. Plus it is so much quieter. Later on this year when there is room in the budget, I will get the Panasonic Arc 6, just to find out if there is anything closer than the other top two.
I concur. The first time I used my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra it left my throat all bloody and sore. Right away I applied an alum block and then some Thayer's Witch Hazel, and then finished up with some Nivea aftershave balm. That healed the area right away, so that I was able to shave two days later with a foil shaver. More aftershave products and then back to the rotary with no issues. It DOES take a little time to get used to a rotary shaver. But once your skin has become accustomed to the rotary, you won't want to go back to anything else. VERY smooth against the skin, and a very close shave, with no irritation.
I didn't find any closeness differences between the two shavers. The 6600 is reasonably comfortable too. I wish someone could tell me what I got for all the money I spent on the i9000 Prestige Ultra.
I agree on the 'YMMV' scenario. I get a BBS shave with my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. Others don't like it. Funny that!🤔
I've gotten BBS in areas with my Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, and my Wahl Vanish. I have to apply alum block and Thayer's Witch Hazel and finish up with some Nivea aftershave balm because my skin is very tender after that close of a shave.
I concur with your choice of Philips, and I love the flexible head, although I have never used one that had the fixed head. My first Philips was the i9000 Prestige Ultra, and I really like it. But I got to wondering if all that money was necessary, so I bought a lower priced one (a refurbished 6600) just to see. I was surprised to find out that the 6600 shaved as close as the Prestige Ultra. It takes a little more effort to get there, but I think it's just as close.
I can partially agree. When I did my first shave with the i9000 Prestige Ultra, it ripped my throat open. I applied Witch Hazel and then some Nivea aftershave balm, and the repair was very rapid. However I didn't abandon it, I had read that you need to 'condition' your skin and it could take three weeks to a month to get there. After a couple of days I used one of my Brauns to shave with. Then two days later I again used the i9000, with no trouble. It is now my shaver of choice.
I have both the Braun Series 9 Pro+ and the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. The Braun is collecting dust. I had to go through the initial 'shredding' too, but it was worth it! The Norelco is so much more comfortable now. I still get a stinging sensation after a shave, but I just go through the same ritual that I do with a blade; alum block, Witch Hazel, and then some Nivea aftershave balm to finish up. The only time I use my two Brauns now, is to remind me how much I love my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra.
Don't worry about it. My Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra did the same thing to me when I first got it. I just waited a couple of days and used my Braun the next time I was ready to shave and then the next time a couple of days later I used the i9000 again with no issues. It was just that initial shave that caused me problems. Now it is my favorite shaver. DON'T GIVE UP! You will be glad you stuck it out.
I do get a stinging sensation after using my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. But I use an alum block then Thayer's Witch Hazel, and finish with some Nivea aftershave balm and that takes care of any irritation. No bumps or redness at all.
Don't discount the rotary. I have a Braun Series 7 360 Turbo and a Series 9 Pro+, and I don't use either of them because I prefer my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. It is much smoother against my skin, and shaves at least as close as the Brauns, if not closer. However there IS a short break-in period where your skin needs to get conditioned to the shaver. I had that experience when I first got my i9000. I had to wait a couple days before I could shave again, and when I did, I used the Braun. After about a week I went back to the Norelco with no issues. Now it's my main shaver. I just use the Brauns to remind me how much I love the Norelco.
As soon as I get my bills paid down, I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy an Arc 6 with the cleaning station. Lord knows I don't need it. Not with the other two high end shavers I already have. But I've made shaving my hobby and I just have to find out. I don't know how much closer an electric can get than my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, but I WILL find out.
Whether I use the Braun Series 9 Pro+ or my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, I always use an alum block and then Nivea aftershave balm, and both of those products sting my face. I guess they shave pretty close.
I realize this thread is 3 years old, but I am new to Reddit and have some questions. Did you ever get the Braun? I have one and I don't really like it. Not that it doesn't give an excellent shave, but I am spoiled by my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. It is SO quiet and smooth. I am considering getting a 2000 series Philips, just to see what the difference is. I want to see what Philips considered a good enough shave was to put it to market. I have decided to make shaving a hobby, so the acquisition of several different models of razors is a large part of the hobby. I hear so much praise for the Panasonic Arc 5 and 6, that I am probably going to get an Arc 6 with the cleaning station some time this year, just to see if there's something out there that can improve upon the wonderful results I get from my Prestige Ultra.
Having both the Braun Series 9 Pro+ and the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, and liking them both, I have heard so many positive/comparable/superior comments about the Panasonic Arc 6, that I would like to try one this year. I am very curious as to how anything could shave closer than what I already have. And the only way I can see how to satisfy that curiosity is to buy the ARC6 this year, and try for myself. Between all the electrics and especially the wet shaving equipment, shaving as a hobby is getting frightfully expensive.
😅🤣My throat got all bloody the first time I used my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra! I waited three or four days before I shaved again, and when I did; I used my Braun Series 9 Pro+. I waited another two or three days and used the i9000 again with no issues. So yes, it takes some getting used to with a very close shaving electric.
I started using a straight razor and double edge for a hobby. But for a very acceptable shave, and if I don't feel like experiencing a wet shave, my Braun Series 9 Pro+ or Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra work wonders. I only started shaving again after about ten years. And when I started, I got the best electrics out there. So I can't speak to the quality of shave you would get with anything less expensive. I love my electrics.
I have both as well. And my Braun Pro+ is collecting dust. While I find the shaving experience more comfortable with the Philips, for some reason my skin stings after a shave. And I get feedback from an alum block. But later on in the day, as well as the next day, there are no signs of irritation. I'm switching over to wet shaving, not because I'm disappointed with the results from the Philips, but just for something to do. I really like my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra.
My Philips i9000 shredded my face too. But I gave my skin a few days to get 'used' to this type of shaver. That's all it took. Now it is my primary shaver. It is so much smoother and QUIETER than the Braun. However, there is still some feeling of the skin being micro-shaved. It doesn't hurt, but running an alum block over my face will make it sting. After rinsing the alum residue off, I dry my face, and apply Nivea aftershave balm. The next day there is no evidence of any irritation.
I had the exact same thing happen to me with MY i9000 Prestige Ultra. But I queried the problem on the internet, and discovered that my skin wasn't yet conditioned to the shaver. They were right. I just let the area rest for two or three days, in the meantime using alternate ways of shaving. When I went back to the i9000, everything was fine. I own a Braun Series 7 360 Turbo and a Series 9 Pro+. The two Brauns, while very nice shavers, are collecting dust sitting next to the Philips.
I kind of agree. I too have a Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, and love it. But the first time I used it, it made my neck all bloody! I also have a couple of Braun shavers; the Series 7 360 Turbo, and the Series 9 Pro+. I didn't have the Pro+ at the time, but what I did was to not shave for two or three days, and then used the Series 7 360 to shave my whole face. After a week I used the i9000 again with no problems, and is now my go-to shaver. Background information: I had had a beard for several years prior to my interaction with the Philips. So my skin wasn't conditioned to any kind of regular shaving, which is probably why my throat got tore up. I also consider an aftershave balm necessary to reduce any kind of skin irritation. Like everyone else here, I use Nivea, but first I always use Thayer's Witch Hazel and let it dry before I apply the Nivea. I find the i9000 much more comfortable than either of the two Brauns.
My experience is different. I LIKE the shave with the i9000. I TOLERATE the shave with the 9 Pro+. I DO use both however. I find that there are some contours of my face don't get as close with the Philips, and I clean those up with the Braun. Likewise, if I use the Braun first, there will be areas that IT leaves as well. And I clean those up with the Philips. Just my experience.
I have both. The Series 9 Pro+, and the Series 7 360 Turbo. I don't notice any increased redness/irritation post shave, but the Series 7 feels rougher WHILE shaving. I also have the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, and that's the one I like to use, leaving 600.00 worth of Braun shavers collecting dust.
I think 'close' is a relatively subjective term. One man's close may be unacceptable to another. I like how close my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra and Braun Series 9 Pro+ shave. Both shavers may have difficulties in one area or another, and I clean those up with the other shaver that I didn't use in the first place. I realize what I just said is not very cost effective, but I look at shaving as a hobby, so I have invested somewhat heavily in my hobby. If I still have troublesome areas after the two electrics, I get out the Gillette Fusion ProGlide, and/or the straight razor if I feel like being fussy. I'm 71 with a bad, (broken in three places), back, so shaving keeps me entertained. As far as YOUR problem goes; I have HEARD that the Panasonic ARC 5 and 6 deliver the closest shaves with an electric. Although I have also HEARD, (no first hand experience), that the Panasonics tend to be uncomfortable. I have not found either of the ones I have to be uncomfortable. Sorry I can't be more help.
I have both the Braun Series 9 Pro+, and the Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra, and tried them both enough to have a preference. My Braun has been collecting dust... Both shavers give a remarkably close shave, but the Philips is so smooth and QUIET! If the TV is on when I start the Philips, a lot of the time I have to look at it to make sure the indicator lights are on, telling me that it's running. There is no mistaking when the Braun is on, with the roar of the motor, and the buzzing vibration. Just my take after having both shavers about six months.
I have both as well. And while I prefer the i9000, my skin always stings after a shave, and that is not the case with the Pro+. So I would have to agree, the Pro+ delivers a more comfortable shave.
I didn't realize it at the time, but I've come to find out that noise is one of the big things I like about the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. It is SO quiet. It feels like a gentle massage, compared to getting into a fight with a foil razor. Realistically there is no fight involved with a foil. It just sounds like it.
I own two very nice Brauns, the Series 7 360 Turbo, and the Series 9 Pro+. But when I want a smooth, QUIET, comfortable shave, I reach for my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. I WILL use the 9 Pro+ to clean up some spots that the Philips missed, just like when I shave with a Braun, I will use the Philips to clean up what THEY leave. Strange how that works 🤔.
You said any and all...I own three electric shavers. I just did it for a fun hobby. They are the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, a Braun Series 7 360 Turbo, and the Braun Series 9 Pro+. The Series 7 shaves reasonably close, but feels a little rough, although it didn't seem to leave any redness. The 9 Pro+ feels a lot smoother on my skin, and also gets a little closer than the 7. But the one I was reaching for all the time, before I decided to grow a stubble beard, was the Philips. Those rotary heads feel buttery smooth against my skin...BUT that is deceptive. My whole face stings after a shave with it. But I use an alum block, and then rinse the residue off, then splash on some Thayer's Witch Hazel. I let the Witch Hazel dry, then apply some Nivea aftershave balm. No redness, no bumps, and no pain. I know that sounds like a lot of work, and a person really doesn't have to go through all that, with a cheaper shaver, because it won't/can't shave that close. There are choices to be had, and to be made. What kind of shave are you willing to settle for?
There are electrics and there are electrics. I use a Braun Series 9 Pro+ and a Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, with little irritation. BUT, afterwards I use Thayer's Witch Hazel and Nivea Maximum Hydration Post Shave Balm, and those two really settle my skin down.
I agree. The first shave with my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra left my throat raw and bloody! (I had just started shaving again after having a beard for the last decade). But I set it aside for a week, and in the meantime I used my Braun Series 9 Pro+. After that week, I started gently using the Philips, and have been using almost exclusively since. However, that foray back into the world of shaving didn't last long. I am growing a stubble now, and don't expect it to get much longer, but you never know...
Funny you should ask! I own both, and have had them for about six months now. I am usually long winded on Reddit, but this shouldn't take long... Both shavers shave remarkably close, but after the first two weeks; the Braun has just sat. I can't put my finger on it, but the Philips is so smooth and quiet, and it shaves just as close or closer than the Braun. Enjoy, you can't go wrong with either one.
For what it's worth; I have the Braun Series 7 360 Turbo, the Series 9 Pro+, and the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. When I first tried the Philips I didn't like it. It even made my throat all bloody the first time I used it. But it's smooth quiet sound spoke to me, and it's the shaver I grab first now. My face stings a little bit after a shave, so you KNOW it's getting close. Now the only time I use the Braun is when there's a tough spot that the Philips just can't clean up for some reason, and the Braun gets it. So in a roundabout way, I guess I'm saying yes,the longer you use it, the better it gets.
I think you might be mistaken about an electric shaver not cutting skin. I haven't used my Braun Series 9 Pro+ in a while, but I kinda remember my face stinging a little bit after using it. And I KNOW my Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra cuts skin. My face tingles all over after a shave with it. And running an alum block over the area stings like the devil. I'm glad I'm letting my beard grow out again. Fabulous shaves though, with either one.
I have been out of the loop shaving wise for the last ten years. I had just let my beard grow wild. One day I decided I didn't like looking like a bum. So I went to the barbershop and got a decent haircut, and my beard totally shaved off. It was an older barber, but definitely not a full service shop. I couldn't get a decent shave there. So I thought about the situation a little bit, and decided I wanted to go electric. I didn't do any research, and bought the first Braun that popped up on Amazon. It just so happened to be the Series 7 360 Turbo. I was impressed with the closeness of the shave, (not knowing what a good shave looked or felt like), but for some reason I then decided to do some research. My next step was the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra. I couldn't believe how smooth and QUIET it was. Closeness was acceptable, but I still thought there was more... Sooooo I bought the Braun Series 9 Pro+. It shaves really close, but almost a tie with the Philips. I'm finding the Pro+ will leave 'patches', that need touching up, and the i9000 takes care of them. ALL the above being said, (TLDR), even though I love the Philips, if I could only have one, (thank God that's not the case), I would settle on the Braun Series 9. One thing I forgot to mention is that the shaving experience is smoother with the 9 than the 7. The 7 feels kinda rough by comparison. Lucky me, when I want to be clean shaven, I start out with the Braun Series 9, and finish up with the Philips. Side note: after doing more research; the features of the Philips Ultra are bells and whistles gimmicks that I spent money on, but never use. I believe that the shave quality would be just as good with the next model under the Ultra.
I have a Braun Series 7 360 Turbo, and a Series 9 Pro+, and a Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra. They all shave close enough to suit me. A lot of the time I will use the Series 9,and get a good close shave, but with a few left over spots that didn't clean up. That's when I break out the Philips i9000. It will 'find' those spots and even out the shave. I get irritation with a cartridge razor, even though I'm using the Gillette Fusion ProGlide. I'm older, and I look at shaving as a hobby, so I am constantly trying new things, for fun. I doubt you will settle on one thing at your age, and that's fine. If you look at shaving like I do, you will have many years of enjoyment.
