r/shaving · which foil shaver is good for a really close shave? To set expectations I would not expect any foil shaver to work all that well with only one pass. The odds of every whisker, even the ones it can deal with easily, entering a hole in the foil the first time through are tiny. And they can have trouble with some whiskers on some people's faces - if its longer and lying flat against the skin, or is longer and curled, it can take a bit more passes to get all of those. What you can do to help - a) shave every day so that nothing gets too long and remains easy for the foils to get at b) use electric pre-shave lotion which helps the hairs stand up so the foils can get them c) wet shaving in the shower with shaving cream also really helps I've found and helps get a closer shave overall. But not all models can do that - I think almost all the Panasonics and Brauns can, but the Babyliss for instance cannot. Personally I use Panasonic Arc5. Its not top of the line any more and I've seen the older versions as low as $130-140 when they are on sale. But it does a great job for me. My trouble spots are my neck and the corners of my jaw - its not perfect on those areas but its night and day better than lesser models I've used previously.

So that model is known in most of the world as an Arc6 model, and among foil shavers that's about as good as you can get. The huge shaving head the 6 blades and the hyper-fast motor give you the best chance for a quick, close, clean shave, but clean shave in one pass is not realistic. You might have more luck with a rotary shaver from Philips Norelco but this really depends on your face and your beard. Foil shavers aren't meant to work in one pass. For a given whisker to be cut close, it has to enter a hole in the foils. First pass the whisker might not line up with any of the holes. So can take a few passes to get everything. If whisker is flat lying against the skin, or curly, getting it to enter one of the holes can be more challenging. A lot of guys have such hairs on their necks. Electric preshave lotion can help - it makes the whiskers stand up away from the skin. Wet shaving with shaving cream also can help (I use Arc5 model and get excellent results this way). Also stretching the skin with one hand while shaving with the other can also help. Shaving every day for sure can help, because the shorter the whiskers, the less curl and the easier to get them to enter the holes. Like I said I use an Arc5 model, which has one less blade but is otherwise similar. It takes me about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes dry shaving to get good results. Yes, each spot I will pass over at least 4-5 times. Wet shave with shaving cream about the same but it will get closer this way. I have issues with neck hairs too and the Arc5 does a good job, so did the Arc4 I owned before that. Other electrics I owned before the Arc4 (Remington, Braun, older Panasonics) my neck hairs were always a struggle and I had to clean up those spots with a cartridge.

Most days I just dry shave with it, after which I put some hand soap on the foils and run it in cleaning mode under warm faucet. This keeps it fairly clean. Dry shaving it gets close enough for my day-to-day, wet shaving with shaving cream it gets almost to the point of a real razor. Cost-wise, ES-LV65 is $139 on Amazon right now whereas the Manscaped Chairman is $159. On the other hand replacement blades, I just bought full replacement blades+foils on Amazon for about $58 whereas I see its about $45 for the Chairman. I have no direct experience with the Chairman so not sure how its shaving performance is or how long the blades or main unit last. I get about 18 months out of the blades for mine though. Generally foil shavers will get closer than other types of electrics, and are more comfortable, but have more trouble with difficult hairs - long, flat lying ones that a lot of us tend to have on our necks. For these rotary shavers are better but they tend to not be as comfortable and don't get as close. Among the two major foil brands, Panasonic gets closer than Braun but folks say it is not as comfortable as Braun. I don't have any irritation with my Panasonic but YMMV.

If money is no object the latest Panasonic Arc6's are probably the closest electric razors you can buy - the newest ones are sold only in Japan (great since you will be there) and vs. the earlier Arc6's they have thinner foils to get an even closer shave, but like you said obtaining replacement foils/blades might be an issue. The earlier Arc5 and 6 models you should be able to get the replacements no problem. That said, Panasonic gets closer than Braun but is said to be less comfortable. I use a Panasonic Arc5 and don't have any discomfort with it, but if you're really sensitive maybe better go go with Braun.

I don’t have any discomfort with my Panasonic, but YMMV. I’ve only had Braun once and it was like 20 years ago and not a high end one. I got an Arc4 after that and it was night and day better than that specific Braun.

r/shaving · Been a manual shaver for 20+ years... did I miss something in the electric world? Eh, I think at least in the foil shaver world, more evolution was happening maybe 20-25 years ago than has happened in the last 10 years. Compared to 10 years ago at least as far as Panasonic and Braun go you're going to find that all their current shavers are wet/dry models vs back then maybe they still had a few that were dry shave only. Beyond that mostly just more blades - like Panasonic back then you probably could get the 4-blade Arc4 for a reasonable cost and the 5-blade Arc5 was more premium. Now the Arc5's are fairly reasonably priced and its the Arc6 6-blade models that are premium priced. I think motor speeds peaked and leveled out more than 10 years ago. Not sure about Braun but on some models Panasonic has a sensor that adjusts the motor speed higher when its encountering a thicker part of your beard - they had this 10 years ago but the newer models do this more times per second. But I think its mostly a gimmick. I think on their top of the line Arc6 model there is now a new model where the foils are thinner than before so that would in theory get a better shave, but this particular feature may only be available on Japanese-only models so far, I'm not sure. And the Arc6 is really expensive. I use Arc5 and I think its pretty darned amazing. When it dies I'm either getting another Arc5 or if the Arc6's have come down in price by then (who knows, maybe they'll introduce an Arc7) then I'd consider getting one, but I wouldn't pay the premium price for one.

Higher end Panasonic and Braun foil shavers will have one or two “slit” blades that are meant to go after that type of hair more effectively. The Kevin lacks this entirely. I use Panasonic Arc 5 every day and the neck is still not perfect dry shaving but wet shaving with shaving cream helps a lot there. It helps to shave every day because those hairs are much tougher for foil razors when they get longer.

I use an Arc5 and am very happy with the results especially wet shaving with shaving cream. Results for me almost indistinguishable from something like a Gilette Mach 3 . I haven't used Babyliss but from what I've heard a) if using them dry the Babyliss will get closer than Panasonic but Panasonic wins when shaving wet, which the Babyliss cannot do, and b) Babyliss works best on short hairs/every day shaving - in my experience Panasonic is fairly forgiving if you go 2 days between shaves.

If you want closeness, get Panasonic - I have Panasonic Arc5 and don't find it irritating but conventional wisdom is Panasonic isn't as comfortable as Braun, but gets closer. For me all I do is rub a little liquid hand soap on the foils, put it under the faucet and run it in cleaning mode for the 20 or 30 seconds it runs that way. That keeps the inner blades clean especially if you do it after every use. Its difficult to tell how well that helps on the blades that are part of the foil assembly since can't really see them, but I think it does the trick. Also wet shaving with shaving cream in the shower does a great job cleaning it out. Of course you can always spend more on getting one that comes with the cleaning station but then you've got to buy the cleaning cartridges and the hand soap method seems to work well if you aren't fussed with taking a minute to do it each time.

From what I've heard its a little better but not like twice as good, yet it costs over twice as much. But, since you said price doesn't matter and you want the best, I'd get the Arc6 between the two. If price really doesn't matter then you can get the one that comes with the cleaning station. I've never used Braun Series 9 either. A long time ago I had a Braun (no idea what model it was, but I don't think it was near the top of the line) that I had bought on a whim. At some point it died and I bought a Panasonic Arc4. It was just night and day better. Then when it died I bought my first Arc5 and now I am on my second one. In general, the conventional wisdom on them is that Panasonic shaves closer but Braun is more comfortable. For me, I've never experienced any discomfort using Panasonic so its a win-win for me to use them.

I use Panasonic Arc5 and if I wet shave with shaving cream it can get very close to a proper razor. Dry shave it can do it too but with a bit more effort. Arc6 and Arc5 are very similar, but the former has one extra blade which probably helps with getting a closer shave faster but probably does not really make a difference for actual closeness in the final result. The Arc5 models can be had for substantially cheaper and the replacement blades aren’t quite as expensive.
r/shaving · Looking for the Best Electric Shaver - Need Help Deciding! Two years on the blades seems about right. But note they are pricey to replace figure maybe a little under $100. You want to replace the inner blades and the foils at the same time because the foil assembly has 3 of the 5 blades. Battery? I’ve used these for years without issue on the battery. I’m sure they eventually run out but eventually I just preemptively replace or upgrade the whole thing because at some point the cost of replacing the blades is a substantial fraction of the cost just to buy a new shaver might as well once it gets old enough.

For daily use when I’m lazy and dry shave I’d give it 8/10. 9.5/10 wet shaving with shaving cream. On day 2 dry shaving it’s more like 7/10.
r/shaving · Electric shaver recommendations for neck hair I used to have problems with neck hairs (flat lying and going in all directions) until I got into the higher end Panasonic shavers - Arc5 and earlier Arc4 (which isn't so high end these days but that's good because you can get them for cheap). Caveat is I almost always shave every day so once you get them short the first time they can't grow so much in one day to really get long enough and lie flat enough to cause a problem for the shaver. But if you have problems good to use some sort of electric preshave lotion or shaving cream that has alum or similar in it to make the skin taughter and thus the hairs stand up a bit which helps make it easier for the shaver to deal with them. Also the shaver's trimmer can help get their length under control and make it easier for the foils to deal with them.

It gets the hairs that lay flat, where the foil razor misses a few. I use a Panasonic Arc 5 more often than the Phillips. It shaves closer and never gives me red bumps from ingrown hairs. Now I'm trying out wet shaving with double edge blades. My skin only stays smooth for about six hours no matter which method I use. I still shave again late in the day with the Arc 5.

The shaver was hot, and dead as a doornail. I bought a Panasonic Arc 5 to replace it. It shaves pretty well, and I'm careful to unplug the charger after about two hours. I still use my Phillips Norelco 9000 one in a while too. It shaves thoroughly and fast, but then I get occasional red bumps after using it. If I ever decide to splurge I'll try the Braun Series 9, but not for another year or two. I think many of the reviews on these shavers are from the manufacturers.

The trick is to hold it slightly away from your skin for the first pass to take down the length and then go back to normal shaving against the skin. I also wet shave with it and get an extremely close shave with no irritation.

As an update to this, washing the blades properly in some dishwashing soap made a huge difference to restoring the blade sharpness. I suspect that over time the water rinsing wasn’t enough and the dish washer soap helped dissolve oils etc that were clogging the blades. I now clean thoroughly with soap often and it’s been working well.

I would say the most reliable way to get a nice close shave with it is to wet shave. I have hung a mirror on my shower stall wall and I rub hydrating facial cleanser on first. I also dry shave occasionally and I use a pre shave lotion first for that method.

I'm not sure what is meant under the electric shaver cons saying that it doesn't give a smooth shave. I go relatively light with it, go in different directions, and go over the harder areas more. I find the best results with wet shaving, using a liquid soap rubbed on first. r/shaving · How to get closest least irritating shave with panasonic arc 6 So, I have an Arc 5 and I get a close shave, either wet or dry. I find that wet shaving is more consistently better for getting a close shave and minimal irritation. I use Speick pre shave when I dry shave, which is a similar product to Lectric shave. I would never just shave without rubbing some sort of preparing lotion on first. For wet shaving, my approach is to be in the shower and just rub some facial cleanser on first. This combo does very well for me.
r/shaving · ARC 5 question I personally like a clean smooth shave every day and I really like my Panasonic Arc5. So, shaving more vs less frequently might be advisable. I use the pop up trimmer close to my sideburns and under my nose to get close. I have also used the trimmer when I've seen longer stray hairs that got missed. That said, I find letting it linger more in the tougher areas and changing directions helps. Letting the head float around the sharper areas of the chin helps too. I generally get a little better results wet shaving than dry, which I do in the shower with a little bit of facial cleanser rubbed on first.

With that said, shaving with electric is a different approach than manually shaving. You definitely want to go against the grain and it's more about letting the shaver kind of linger in areas vs dragging it along. I recommend wet shaving with it to be sure to minimize the chances of irritation. I shave in the shower and just rub some facial cleanser on first.

I would suggest wet shaving and having some patience. Granted, this is my first time using this kind of shaver with all those blades and that give you such a close [shave.So](http://shave.So), maybe I have to get used to it but I'm finding it hard to get it to shave all hairs. Some areas I'm impressed with how close and smooth it shaves but others I can't get it to remove the hair. If anyone has it and can share some tips I'd greatly appreciate it.

The Arc 5, as with any other electric razor I’ve tried doesn’t shave it all off. I bought a BaBlis Pro that’s gets a significant amount of hair other electric shavers miss but doesn’t handle long hair at all. Both the Arc 5 and the BaByliss are foil shavers and both have easily replaceable double blades.

r/shaving · I've decided to get a Panasonic Arc 5! But which one?! Yes, I had the Pitbull prior to the Arc5 by about a year or so but was never really satisfied with the closeness of the shave. I couldn’t see the remaining hair as it’s gray but I felt it and that bothered me a bit. No one else was able to tell but I could. Also, the Pitbull doesn’t work very well on the face but the Arc 5 works very well on the face, neck and head. I haven’t used my Pitbull since getting my Arc5.

r/shaving · Which Shaver to Buy? I have a Panasonic Arc5 and it works very well. It feels pretty close to a razor and you can occasionally find it on sale at $100-120 if you don’t care about the color (the silver one is showing up as $109 right now on Amazon for me with the clipped coupon). My father-in-law uses a Braun Series 9 Pro+ and I got a chance to try it too. I feel like that gets the closes shave for my face, but it wasn’t worth 3x the price I paid for my Panasonic Arc5. The Panasonic Arc6 is around the same price as that Braun Series 9 Pro+ too and I heard it’s excellent, but I think 6 blades is overkill and it’s expensive. For the price I don’t think you can get a better shave for an electric foil shaver than the Panasonic Arc5. The few extra bucks you spend compared to a Braun Series 3 and 5 gives you a substantially better shaving experience.

After drying my face, I apply some William's Lectricshave that has some lubricant that helps make the shaver glide on my dried off skin. I find on my neck area guiding the shaver in a circular pattern gets my whiskers as on my neck the hair grows in all directions. This is true if I'm shaving with any razor as I have to shave in multiple directions to get a clean shave.

r/shaving · Good razor made a difference! All of the newer screen razors do a good job. I had a Norelco years ago and didn't like it as it irritated my skin to shave with it. I bought several Braun shavers that cut well but they all broke and were unrepairable. I switched to Panasonic and used a 3 cutter model for 12 years until the sealed battery failed so I'm on Panasonic ARC5 now and it's a great shaver. Love the fact that to clean it you can put some liquid soap on the head, run it a bit, and then stick the head in a sink of clean water. Both of my Panasonics allow for wet or dry shaves.
r/shaving · Advice for electric shaver I've had Braun shavers before and they can shave as close as a blade razor. My complaint with Braun is that for me, they don't last and you spend mor $ to buy another one. I now have a Panasonic ARC5 and it too will give you a very close shave but my original Panasonic shaver lasted 14 years and it was only because the battery wasn't replaceable that I got the ARC5. I use William Lectric Shave solution on my face as it lubricates your face and softens your whiskers so you get a nice shave without irritation. When finished shaving I just leave the Lectric shave on as kind of a conditioner. One thing I like about the Panasonic shavers I've had is that for clean-up you can spread a bit of liquid soap on the heard, run the shaver till the soap foams and then stick the head in a sink of water to flush out the debris. You can even wet shave with the Panasonic if you want but I've never tried.

It has a five-blade system, which delivers a super close shave and is really efficient. Panasonic razors used to have better precision and coverage, albeit with higher replacement costs. I'm sure they work fine for light trimming but I personally look like I haven't shaved in 3 weeks, in 1 week's time.

The S9 is a much better razor in this regard but the ARC excels at a much closer shave at the expense of some comfort. If I don't shave for a few days I'll trim everything down with some zero-gapped trimmers and then shave as I normally would with the ARC.

In the case where you've gone more than about 2 days between shaves, it may be beneficial to go over the area with a set of trimmers first (if you have them of course) to catch those hard to get hairs. Are you using a pre shave? Williams Electric Shave and Speick are good choices. However, wet shaving with the ARC is really next level. I use Jack Black Beard Lube and it has reduced the irritation to almost nothing. Best.
r/shaving · Would like opinions on electric shavers for sensitive skin The tone of the razor will switch to this sustained higher pitch and the battery will die within a minute even at full charge. I've never worn a hole in any of the foils. My theory is that something about the blades in the foil head bind up and cause the motor to have to work harder thereby wearing the battery down abnormally fast.
r/shaving · Would like opinions on electric shavers for sensitive skin In my experience, the ARC 5 works best when wet shaving. The Braun S9 is a more comfortable but not as close shave. In either case, I use Jack Black Beard Lube. One major drawback to the ARC 5 is the prohibitively high cost of replacement foils and blades. Currently they run about $100 on AMZ for the full set and although Panasonic says the foils should be replaced every year, I barely get 8 months out of them before I have to replace them. And they're not the easiest thing to find. The S9 replacement cassette is more readily available and about half the cost of the ARC 5 blades and foils. I don't feel the cleaning station is necessary for the ARC 5 if it is cleaned, dried and treated with a lubricant like Cool Care or Clippercide. The S9 really benefits from the cleaning station but the cleaning pods add to the overall cost of ownership for the S9. Have you considered a rotary like the Phillips Norelco as opposed to the foil? My son said the foil irritated his skin so we switched him to a rotary and he said it's a much more comfortable shave. Hope this helps. Best.

I wet shave with an S9 and Jack Black's Beard Lube and can shave every day with little to no irritation. Previously I used a Panasonic Arc 5 and although it was a considerably closer shave than the S9, it came with some degree of irritation even when wet shaving. r/BuyItForLife · Best electric shaver for men (foil vs rotary, sensitive skin, wet/dry), what do you actually use? I've had an Arc5 for a while now, really prefer it over the Brain series 7 I had before. I don't know why but the Arc's blades seem to last longer in between replacements for me. Not really a fan of the cleaning station but it works well enough.

Or on the rare occasions you smell something a little off (happens sometimes in humid Singapore if you do wet shaving and don't remove the shaver head to let dry) or if you feel the trapped gunk in the head is affecting the smoothness of shave. Ofc how often depends on whether you do wet shaving with additives or purely dry shaving, but I think cleaning this shaver has given me minimal complaints. Sometimes when I'm lazy I just rinse it while running without opening it up, before removing the head to dry. It actually works in prolonging the window between cleanings

If I ever go days without it then a DE shave will happen. If not the arc 5 keeps everything smooth. Takes about 1 minute.

Had no knowledge of electric shavers so took the advice on this sub. I spent $200 on and ARC5 foil razor. Freaking HATED it. Unless I’m a moron and can’t operate it, it basically made a noise stool my 5 day beard to a two day beard and then stopped. I just returned it; completely useless.
r/shaving · Electric or razor? Update: Well I purchased the ARC5 based on comments here, and tried it dry on my 5 day old white beard. And…I am not sure I get it. I rubbed over the beard repeatedly and it slowly, very slowly, cut the beard. It didn’t scrape my skin which is what I was looking for, but left me with an unsightly and uneven 5 o’clock shadow, and not in a good way. I could only get a moderately close shave in the flattest, largest parts of my cheek, while around my mouth and nose was a joke. Wound up pulling out the old Mach 3 to finish the job. What am I missing?

r/shaving · Panasonic arc 5 vs Babyliss vs Barun series 9 I've owned only Braun for many, many years. When my most recent Series 9 power button fell off, for the 2nd time, I decided to try an Arc 5. Love it. The Braun gave a nice shave, but for my face at least, I much prefer the panasonic. It shaves closer and quicker than any of my Braun's evee have. The head is a bit larger whcih took some getting used too, but now I don't even notice. As far as skin issues, I have had none with either shaver.

(Series 9 being the latest). When my power button fell off for the 2nd time, I decided to try a Panasonic Arc 5. Really wish I would have done that before. For me, it is the quickest, closest and most comfortable electric shave I have ever had. Using it slowly, it requires 2-3 passes in most areas including my neck. With Braun I always had to use a trimmer to get any slightly longer neck hairs. The Arc 5 has been just fantastic all around and I even prefer the cleaning station over the Braun's.

r/shaving · For the people with a electric shaver, do you use it dry or wet? I have the Braun 9 and use it dry. I really like it. Upgraded from Arc 5 which irritated after a while. I still miss a closest shave I used to have with DE. Years ago. But then out of nowhere anytime I shaved I had cuts all over, I mean my entire face would bleed in dozens of spots. I'm thinking about the Henson, would it be worth it over the Braun ?

r/shaving · Has someone already tried out the new Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra? I just ordered an i9000 (base model?). Coming from Panasonic LV9FX ARC5 shaver, had a Norelco rotary back in the day but I'm going to try this rotary again. Having both an inner and outer blade set (SH91) seems promising. My biggest concern is below the nose at the top of my lip. These big trim areas extend well beyond the blades. I'm wondering if I could get an SH90 head assembly and insert the SH91 blade set. The SH90 head assembly is rounded and looks like it would work better under the nose. Thoughts? Also, I plan to buy a battery and try to resurrect my LV9FX that was imported via eBay from Japan. They never even sold it in the USA. It's a fantastic unit.

However, shortly after, I broke the head trim with my foot on the plane. Had to pay 40 bucks for a tiny piece of plastic, imported from China. Pre-Trump. Did not pay any extra fees. Never imagined it would be so hard to source the foil trim cover. It's a different shape than the US models and not available ANYWHERE!

For my sensitive face skin, I find the brand-new what Braun called "AeroTouch Technology" to be superior for me personally when it comes to irritation. Braun says: "NEVO Electric Shaver combines 250 diamond-sharp cutting edges with an ultra-low friction foil to minimize skin drag and irritation." The shaving head glides very smooth across my face and neck, and feels good, and left me feeling no irritation, and of course no nicks. Again, I am not related to Braun, and I agree that the shaver's high $599 introductory price (which includes the cleaning station) is a turn-off. Amazon has the Arc 6 at Amazon right now for $100 less, and perhaps for people without sensitive skin they can choose to save the money. By the way: The NEVO replacement cartridges will cost $100. Oh, and the $599 model at Amazon includes a battery-powered travel case that can charge the shaver wirelessly. Having this was not an incentive for me personally.

BBS in half the time every day in half of the time of rotary, and rotary still never got that close. I wasted so many years not using foil. I use the wahl vanish for my head and it is also phenomenal. The Arc will do my head as well but the vanish has bigger foil holes so it’s much faster.

r/shaving · Panasonic Swipe Right vs Arc 5 Palm I love my arc 5. I’ve had it a couple of months after using rotary my entire shaving life. To be honest, I felt like an idiot. The counterintuitive design of rotaries aside, the foil shaves so much closer. It’s as smooth and a blade shave, and I shave dry. Rotary will get there if you spend twice the time. I admit, I’m still bitter with myself for thinking rotary was useful and “good.” It’s trash. You’ll spend an extra couple of bucks on the arc but the performance and results are worth it.

The Arc 5 is fine in the shower. Light circular motions are all that's needed. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Don't press hard, it's not needed. The bonus? Greatly reduced blade wear. Heat is what dulls blades, and a cool, low pressure shave will allow the razor to do its job

This is a known and common problem with pumps and "cleaning stations". I simply wash it by hand. I do prefer using the razor with a wet shave soap applied with a brush. I make sure the lather is thinned out, not too thick. Plenty of water for lubrication, significantly reduces wear, and increases comfort. Plus it's easy to clean.

The level of closeness is good for 99% of situations for me and is my go to option if I need to shave every day (I can only do every two days with a cartridge razor). It did take my face a week or two to adjust and stop looking like I have razor burn but that can be expected. I took advice here and bought lectric'shave which has been super helpful. Otherwise, this is the smoothest electric shave I've ever had. The only thing I've noticed is that it is taking me longer to shave with the Arc 5 than the one blade. Area like my jaw line, require me to go out and back in various directions and it just slows me down but the results are awesome and I am happy. I think part of it is that I always knew the One Blade had its limits, so I shaved "good enough" and kept moving every day. With the Arc5 I get to obsess over the perfect shave.

r/shaving · I've decided to get a Panasonic Arc 5! But which one?! Thanks for the reply. My ARC5 is just the shaver, no cleaning station. Since I wrote the earlier post, I've now shaved with it. I'm pretty impressed, even though it's just one shave. It's absolutely the closest shave I've ever had from an electric razor. No doubt about that. Took a mite longer than my Norelco, but I expected that due to unfamiliarity. I was worried about the size of the shaving head, but I guess I should not have been. I was afraid it was going to be unwieldy, but I didn't encounter any issues at all. Frankly it felt pretty nimble. I'll have to train myself to not do the Norelco circular-motion thing. That will be a tough habit to break. Thanks again for the response.

Right now, I rotate between a couple depending on my mood. **-** If you want something budget but still solid, the Braun Series 3 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver 310s is kinda the safe pick. It’s not fancy but gets the job done and doesn’t destroy your skin. **-** For trimming + light shaving, Philips OneBlade Hybrid Trimmer is honestly underrated. Not the closest shave ever, but super convenient and low irritation. **-** If you want that “barber clean” shave, I tried the Panasonic ARC5 Advanced 5 Blade Men's Electric Shaver and yeah… it’s expensive but crazy close. Like almost blade-level. If I had to recommend one for most people: Braun Series 3 or Series 6 range is the sweet spot. Anything above that is kinda luxury unless you really care about super close shave.

r/shaving · Review: Panasonic Arc 5 vs Braun Series 9 Truth to be said, the cost for the foils on the A5 here in Australia, is A$110+A$50 for the whole assembly every 15 months. The shaving experience isn't that great after 12 months in my experience. I personally prefer Braun when it comes to the cleaning station. Yes, Braun cartridges are more expensive but, the way I manage it, I don't need to replace them every month. It's a pure concentrated and self-contained solution and again, imo, more effective in cleaning and lubricating. With Panasonic, you have this gel that is meant to dissolve in water and you create your solution every month. But the reality is that the Panasonic solution doesn't really stay mixed, and it deposits on the bottom of the tray and towards the end of the month is kind of smelly. The Braun counterpart cartridge instead, can be removed from the tray after each use and sealed with its own lid so it doesn't evaporate as quickly being volatile alcohol. I hope this helps some folks in their decision-making to have a more informed decision. I thought I liked Panasonic A5 more after my Braun old and legendary S7, but after 2 years of the A5, I switched back to the Braun and I feel I'm leaning towards Braun for the overall experience and maintenance costs.

Ended up picking it up, looked virtually never used and kept in a closest since 2022, used an air blower air compressor just incase anything was in there I wasn't seeing(there was none), did the dawn dish soap cleaning setting thing with hot water in the sink for the outer foils for 10 mins, then the same amount of time for the inner ones, then soaked the foils in 70% isopropyl alcohol for 15 mins, then did the soap thing again for 5 mins each, then ran the cleaning cycle with the foils in iso for a bit, let air dry, then did the dawn dish soap thing again, battery charged really fast and still has a the rated drain, and the foils look basically new, so I think I lucked out but I need to learn how to use a foil coming from a de safety razor

They get compared a lot and figured I'd give my two cents. Hmm. I think better way to word it would be that I wouldn't have bought the S9 if I wasn't having sensitivity issues with the Arc. If I didn't have sensitive skin, and had all the information I have now, then went back in time to buy either... Tough to say. The Braun having the cheaper replacement heads and a better battery are pretty great. Plus, in reality, I never shave with the Braun and think "man I wish this was closer." I also have grown to love the smaller head on the Braun, it's a bit more nimble.

I have a Panasonic Arc 5 and it struggles to pick up some flat hairs on my neck even after multiple passes, I end up using the popup trimmer to get those hairs.

r/shaving · Went from a Costco shitty rotary shaver to a Panasonic Arc 5, I didn’t realize a shave could be this close. Mine came in the mail today. First electric in probably 20-25 years. The plan was that it would be a useful tool when time, space, etc. didn’t allow for a wet shave with safety razor. So far (only one shave, mind you), not super impressed. I’ll give it an easier task with 1-2d growth instead of 3-4d as was the case today. Maybe I will end up liking it but it seemed to take a LOT of passes and left me far from BBS.

r/shaving · Panasonic arc 5 oil application? From my experience, oil infrequently for the best results. I brush it clean every day. After a while it'll need a clean (old skin cells will begin to smell). Use its ultrasonic cleaning mode and some liquid soap; oil it after this. The next few shaves after oiling you tend to get clumps of hair held together by the oil so don't do it every day. It isn't a car and doesn't need the same level of lubrication.

r/shaving · Foil Shaver for Close Shave on Sensitive Skin In my case, I tried the Braun series 7 (older model) the current series 9 pro+, and Panasonic arc 5. I have very sensitive skin and coarse hair. All three razors took a while getting all the hairs, and left some razor burns. The one that worked the best for me was the Panasonic arc 5. It left the least amount of razor burns, and gave the smoothest shave in the end. The series 9 pro+ wasn't as smooth, and gave me a slightly worse razor burn, but not by much. the series 7 was slightly worse than the series 9 pro+. The one thing Series 9 pro+ did better was that it didn't get as warm when shaving for a long period of time, possibly because the arc 5 has a more powerful and faster motor. The way I see it, if you want the smoothest shave, more powerful motor, and save some money, I'd go for the arc 5 (maybe arc 6, haven't tried it yet). If you don't want to worry about cleaning and oiling the razor after use, and don't mind the shave being as smooth, the Braun series 9 would be a good option.

However, foil shavers for the most part get excellent reviews, but those reviews are usually referring to either the Panasonic Arc 5 or 6, or any of the Braun shavers. I have three Braun shavers and a Panasonic Arc 5, and I like them all for what they are. By that I mean they are all 'good', but the more expensive ones do give a closer shave. The outlier here is the Panasonic. It easily gives as close of a shave as the way more expensive Braun Series 9 Pro+.

r/shaving · Electric shaver advice Having both types of shavers, I can say from personal experience that a foil will be easier on your skin, at least to start out with. If you give a rotary enough time for your skin to become conditioned to it, you will find the rotary to be more comfortable. That has been my experience. Still, with either a close shaving foil, or any rotary, you shouldn't go over any area too many times or you will break the skin. Not enough to where it bleeds, but enough to where an astringent, such as Witch Hazel, and/or an aftershave balm will make your skin sting, meaning that a layer of skin has been broken. For most men this is not an issue, it's just a part of life. But given your propensity for a severe reaction to shaving, it's a decision only you can make. As far as closeness goes, I had settled on the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, at least until I tried the Panasonic Arc 5 foil shaver. While not Panasonic's best shaver, I think it shaves as close as, or closer than the Norelco. You still have to be careful about going over an area too many times, especially when first starting out with any electric shaver. The more you shave with one, the easier it gets. I still occasionally use a double-edged razor, if only to remind myself how much I like my Norelco and/or my Braun Series 9 Pro+, or my Panasonic. Another thing to consider about the higher priced models is that you don't have to go over the same areas as much as with the lower priced ones because the costlier ones shave closer with each pass, meaning fewer trips over the same areas to achieve the desired results. Good luck. I thought I had difficulties until I read your story. Now, not so much.

I am in the early stages of testing, so I am in no position to make a recommendation, other than I haven't found a bad one in the bunch. And that's anywhere from a 26.00 open box Philips Norelco 2400 to a 400.00 i900 Prestige Ultra or Braun Series 9 Pro+. Also a Panasonic Arc 5. You can see and feel the difference in quality, and the time it takes to finish a shave, but as far as closeness, I must have a very easy to shave beard because I always get a BBS shave. No matter which way I run my fingers over my beard, I don't feel any whiskers lifting up. But I've just been shaving around my beard, so I'm not a very good test platform. What takes me eight months to grow out takes my son two weeks. I am jealous! Hopefully I'll soon get the bug to be clean shaven again. Then I'll be in a better position to judge these eleven shavers.

It had been so long since I'd shaved that I forgot how I used to do it. I first bought a Braun Series 7 360 Turbo. Not because I knew what it was, just because I remembered the Braun name. I thought it did a decent job, but then I started researching. OMG! I never knew there were so many different models of shavers! So I started buying up shavers. First I got the Braun Series 9 Pro+, a decided improvement in comfort. Then I bought the Philips Norelco i9000 Prestige Ultra, and immediately settled on it. I found it a lot more comfortable, and gave me a closer shave. This could get really long, so I'll shorten things up. I told myself that I had to try the Panasonic Arc 5 or 6 shaver. After I took a look at my shattered finances from my recent buying spree; I ordered the Arc 5. Night and day difference between it and the Brauns. Quieter, smoother, less irritation, and a little closer shave. What a beautiful machine. I think you will be very happy with the Panasonic Arc 5. I'm going to order the Arc 6 next month, 'cause I just gotta know.

r/shaving · New Foil shaver for bald head! Andis finally died (my fault) When I was shopping (to use for my face) it was between the Braun 9 or Panasonic Arc 5. All reviews said the Arc 5 shaved the closest. I knew if I bought the Braun, I would still be curious about the one that shaved closer, so I went with the Panasonic. I now use it on my face and my bald head and I've been very happy. I occasionally get bumps on my lower neck when shaving my face. It's far cheaper than the Braun. When mine dies I may buy a Braun just to see if it lives up to the hype.

I have sensitive skin and an incredibly coarse beard, so my neck was always swollen and bloody, no matter what I used or how I shaved. On a recommendation from my barber I got a Panasonic Arc5 shaver about 20 years ago and that solved all of my problems. I’m on my second one and will probably get a new one soon, as my battery life is poor and it seems the motor has lost some vigor. But yeah. Blade-close, wet or dry, easy to maintain, and efficient (I don’t have to make pass after pass to grab a stray hair).
r/shaving · Is it worth buying an electric razor? I have been using a Panasonic Arc5 for about 15 years and it’s the only way I can shave that doesn’t destroy my face, especially my neck. I have a dense, thick beard that’s really wiry and touch to mow through. Any sort of blade just mulches my skin. Rotary shaves also tug and pull too much, but the Arc5 is able to give me a close shave without irritation or bleeding. I use some pre-shave oil as well as Electric Shave, then follow with moisturizer. It works.

r/shaving · how often do foil shaver heads actually need to be replaced? I usually went about 18 months or so when I used the Arc3 and then Arc5. I just switched to the Braun 9 Pro+, so we will see how the head progresses. As an FYI, if you are looking at the Braun 9 Pro+, I would recommend the newer 96xx series with the 96m head. Braun also has a 95xx series that uses the older 94m head. I had been using an Arc5 for years but don't shave every day anymore and the Arc5 wasn't that great at getting the longer hairs I had. The Braun is much better in that regard and with the 96m head, its just about as close as the Arc5 IMO.

The package I got came with an extra head(the 96m head is impossible to find in the states right now). I love it. The Arc5 is great but rhe new Braun head is much closer to the arc5 than anything else and with a goatee, its much easier to manipulate. Plus it seems to be much better on the linger hairs since I only shave 2-3 times a week these days. Anyway, you will love Arc5. I did when I was shaving every day. It is a great shaver. But I am about to give the Braun 9 pro+ 2025 edition a try. The 2025 edition uses a different head than the prior pro+ and is supposed to be a lot closer to the arc5. The issue I have with the arc5 is, these days, I only shave 2 maybe 3 times a week and the arc5 isn't very good with longer hairs(this has been noted in several reviews). I've had several occurrences where the wife will tell me a missed a couple stragglers because of this. Yes it is a close shave but having to go over some spots many times just to make sure I got everything gets frustrating at times. So with the black Friday sales, Im trying the 2025 9 Pro+. I have used the Braun 7 in the past so I do have experience with Braun. We shall see.

I have very tough facial hair that dulls safety razor blades in one shave. So OneBlad refills were lasting a month or so. The Panasonic arc5 has been awesome. I regret not trying a decent foil electric shaver sooner. Highly recommend. The rotary blade shavers are just worse in my opinion (also have had a decent norelco shaver for years) Panasonic, Philips or Braun seem to make the best foil shavers. I’ve been really impressed with the Arc5s build quality and results. Made in Japan always seems to impress these days.

I forgot to take it overseas at Christmas and bought a much cheaper Panasonic ES-RF31. It's surprisingly good for the price, so if you're going for something cheaper, that's an good option IMO. I was expecting it to be problematic, but not at all.

Everybody's skin and bristle type is different. I've got both shavers,the panasonic is better on the cheeks and under the bottom lip. The braun is better everywhere else. Especially under the nose. The panasonic is poor there. I've got to go over and over again god knows how many times. The braun a LOT less, and thats where your bristles are the toughest. Followed by the chin area. For someone else, it could be the opposite. Its trial and error a lot of the time.
r/shaving · I am amazed by how awful the Braun Series 9 Pro is From a personal point of view, and ive used all types of electric shavers over 30 years. Ive just got my series 9 pro plus, and it's already becoming my ideal, best all round shaver. As ive said many times, everyone has a unique combination of skin-bristle toughness types. What's great for one person can be bad for someone else. But for ME, it gives me a quick, close shave that no other shaver has been able to match. It shaves as close as my arc 5,but without the annoying noise. The panasonic was also a lot slower of a shave.

r/shaving · Having s terribly experience with my panasonic arc 5 Had the same issue, read a comment about when having wet skin made the razor work better, tried under the shower but the result was meh, so buyed safety razor, had to buy also some shaving gel because i hate foam, some days later did’t really have time so used the razor again on my dry skin, it was meh again, remembered the comment, used hot water on my skin, put small amount of gel, and some splashes of water so the gel don’t dry and oh boy, the shaver worked sooooo muchhh better, all the issues i had with it gone, litterally made me bleed how agressive it was (i was using it aggressivly, also the safety razor made me bleed days before so maybe that is why), try it,

I never tried it on my head but for the face it was a really good shave. I use a DE for my face every day and DE my head every 2 days. (I use the Remington once a week - there is always one day where my time is too limited to use the DE).

Now I use a brush with shaving soap with a Rockwell 6s double edge razor. This provides a smooth all day shave.

I can get it to a point where I can't even feel the stubble when running my finger against the grain (for some reason, having it rotated a tiny bit when doing the up and down motions seems to give me even better results than having it straight). It was a pain to get it from Japan but I got an extra foil to not have to worry about spares on this new head type until it gets a global launch.

(Price, Close Shave) Despite I have Arc5 myself for like 8 years and still see nothing decent enough to be its replacement - I'd say that buying used shaver is pretty close to buying used toothbrush or underwear. At least you should change foil and blades before using it - but then the total will be comparable to a not used one (say, overstock or damaged box). So is the amount saved by buying that "excellent condition" off eBay really worth the hassle?

r/shaving · Why do people use electric razors? I feel you. I also have a Panasonic Arc 5 but it find that to be a bit too much work to have to DE shave afterwards too. I have a SkullShaver Pitbull Pro (rotary shaver) that works much quicker than the Arc 5 and that's exactly what I need. It leaves absolutely zero irritation and preps the hair for the blade that's coming. The Arc 5 does shave much closer than the Pitbull Pro, but considering I will run a blade through it too, there is no need for that.

For 1-2 days growth I suggest Panasonic. 3-4 days Braun is better, but still not a very close shave. Both should be used with a brush and cream for even better results. Cleaning stations are not worth it imo. I cleaned mine after every use with soap and water, let it dry and then apply some lubrication spray,like Andis. Also the Braun lasted about 3 years. Panasonic got replaced after 3 years while working fine. I've never tried the Philips rotating type.

I got it because it doesn’t drop very many hairs and I thought that would be nice. That said, the OneBlade I bought is going strong after years of use, cuts almost as close, and is way more compact. And it was less than half the price. I’ll be using both. Probably if I used it everyday I wouldn’t need to even use the OneBlade

r/shaving · Best electric razor for men I recently granned the Panasonic Arc 5. Really like it. I have sensitive skin and while i do find it slightky harsh, it leaves me with a nice smooth shave. I was very surprised and happy so far with it. I believe it takes your skin on average 30 days to get used to the new shaving method.

r/shaving · Foil shaver I haven't had any problems. I don't know how sensitive my skin is compared to yours. But I think if you lube up your beard enough prior to shaving, it shouldn't be an issue. It's definitely less irritations than using a blade which I used most of my life.

r/shaving · Has anyone own the new Philips i9000 Prestige Ultra and Panasonic Arc 5/6? Which one provides a closer shave? I would say the Arc 5 and the Norelco i9000 are similar in terms of closeness. I tried the Braun 9 series and it did a terrible job on my neck both wet and dry. The Arc 5 does cut close but irritated my neck to get a close shave. With the i9000 I am now getting a close shave with no irritation (so far). Just completed my first week but so far I really like it. Of course everyone’s skin and beard is different and everyone has their own experiences. But over the past 20+ years of using electric, this is the best so far for me. Good luck.

r/BuyItForLife · Best electric face shaver? Currently I'm using Panasonic ARC5 (ES-LV65-S). My order history shows I bought it 3 years ago and I haven't yet felt the need to replace the blades or foil. The one before that was a similar 2 blade model. I used it for over 10 years and it still worked fine. I just wanted to try the extra blade. I don't regret it but honestly I don't think it matters much. I think the shaving cream stuff is a really personal choice. Many would argue, but what works best for me is actually a dry shave. I wash my face or shower first, then shave after completely dry. If you want to get a little closer, the trick someone showed me is to wet shave and use some liquid hand soap. This works great for one time, like for a wedding or something, but I find it irritating to shave this close every day. I know all of that sounds like horrible skin care advice but I have tried a lot of things and this gives me the least irritation. I do use some kind of after shave gel and moisturizer when done. Currently it's Jack Black but this shouldn't be affected by shaving method. The last thing I'll say is that any shaving method will take your skin a couple weeks to acclimate. So whatever you decide, stick with it for long enough to decide (as long as your're not hurting yourself).

What I do is I use a shaving gel and shave side to side in my neck letting the foil shaver glide on the skin rather than pushing. I gotta go over a few times but it works!!

Hey, sorry i totally forgot to update here, yeah i am quite satisfied with the Arc 5 closeness, even more closer than my Gillette razor blade which may because i have bad skill but still very impressive. It does miss some spot tho so i typically take around 3min - 4min everyday to shave.
r/shaving · Closest shave possible Had a panasonic arc 5 L551U recently, the closeness it gets is really incredible, for me even able to shave better than my Gillette razor at tough spot(neck). Currently the only downside is that it does still need a few passes to ensure no spot is missed, nevertheless it still shaves well under 5 minutes for my daily / alternate day shaving.

The ARC5 such a POS, I actually refurbed my Panasonic ES8243 with a new battery and new foil and it's still the best razor I ever owned (I have 3, would buy a new one if they made it - the current 3 blade is underpowered. I know this because I bought it before I refurbed the older one) I've been a Panasonic person my whole life so I bought the ARC 5 to keep with that. It doesn't shave the neck and misses areas around the chin, the head is just too bulky and big. The trimmer flat out doesn't work (maybe cuts 30% as well as the one on the ARC3). And don't waste your $$ on the BS cleaning stations either. They make zero difference in how well a razor shaves.

r/shaving · Panasonic arc 5 foil losing lubrication I have had at least 10 Panasonic electric razors and the ARC5 is by far the absolute worst of them - I absolutely hate it and don't use it anymore. I refurbished one of my old ARC 3s with a new battery and new foil and I'm happy as a clam. The ARC5 is a POS in so many ways including giving one of the worst shaves of all of them even when it was new and the trimmer is useless too.... just bite the bullet and get something else.

The Arc5 is doing 90% of the work with great speed and outcomebut it leaves few flat laying hairs as well as not great for my neck which is sensitive. This is the case with most foils from my experience. You can use the trimmer from the arc5 but it is not as good in terms of feel compared to the one blade. I do prefer this combo to the rotor shavers that can do both but with final outcome that is not as close shave and take longer time overall.

r/shaving · How to get closest least irritating shave with panasonic arc 6 I’ve been using the arc 5 for a couple weeks now. Dry works fine but I have noticed a way better shave by using “lectric shave”. It’s a pre shave you put on with alcohol in it that dries out the skin and makes the hair stand up. I’ve found I get closer and don’t have to go over the same spots over and over again, which usually results in irritated skin. I haven’t tried the wet shave aspect of it since I’ve always done electrics dry.

I'd say ensure you use a good shave brush to lift the smaller hairs and really pull your skin tight. Honestly I do sometimes use a safety razor to clean-up the hard to reach areas.

What helped me was switching to a foil shaver instead of rotary — I use a Panasonic Arc5. The key is to use light pressure and short strokes, and I always shave right after a shower when my skin is clean and dry. Also, cleaning the heads regularly makes a bigger difference than I expected. Hope that helps!

I have combination skin so I typically use my Panasonic when I first wake up before washing my face or showering. You should try pre shave or some shave products designed to facilitate electric shavers as I’ve had mixed results and just wetting my skin is all I need but your skin may need more. I sometimes follow the electric shaves with a quick cartridge shave (Mach 3) with the beard grain if I want a closer shave but the Panasonic is fast and pretty close by itself. I wash after and moisturize. As others have said, your whole skin care routine will help with the razor burn you cite and it goes beyond just shaving. Good luck

r/shaving · Looking for a quality electric razor to accompany my safety razor. Panasonic Arc5 and some body wash works great on my face in the morning. You can get an insanely close shave, but at least with my face with whiskers growing in every direction, it is not a fast shave. Since Christmas, I’ve been using a Phillips 9-series (I think 7-9 have the same head). It doesn’t get quite as close as the Panasonic, but it is a faster shave, and might make sense as a pre-shave before using a safety razor. You can also use these wet (with some soap for lubrication).

Recently bought a Panasonic Arc 5 - it’s the bee’s knees. Extremely close shave and better feel than Braun. Braun 9 feels more expensive b/c of it’s added weight (feels like a precision tool). But I’ve had a better experience with Arc. Braun build great products. My 9 series lasted me 9 years.

(At least I hope) I am a long time supporter of Panasonic shavers because my father used to work for Panasonic and i've never had a bad panasonic product in my life. Took a chance on the P3 Pro, let me tell you that P3 Pro is awesome. I haven't tested every shaver on the market just the Panasonic ARC5 but the P3 Pro has replaced the Panasonic for me(although I am still loyal and keep it around) I love the USB-c Charging: The panasonic custom connector is a pain when I forget it during traveling. The feel of that CNC milled casing is also amazing. Much easier to keep clean, the plastic of the panasonic has little crevices where calcium from my water supply gets deposited over time and its a pain to clean out. Not a big deal but looks ugly. This company though? I don't know. The website design is typical Chinese design, such a pain to navigate. r/shaving · How do I shave properly as a 16 year old? Been shaving for 40yrs. Dad was never around so I had to figure it out. I still use a variety of things. When in a hurry: I liked the Braun Series 9 but am using the Panasonic ARC5 this go around. Its ok so far, especially easy to clean. When I have time: I always go for a big lather and use a double-edge **safety razor**. Love my Merkur Slant Bar double edge so much I have replaced the comb due to threads wearing out twice, but I still wont switch. Love the shave. Use good blades like the 'Feather' double edge and change blades every few shaves. For special occasions I have several straight razors. This is not for most. I spend an afternoon prepping the blade on japanese stones and a leather/wool strop combo. Deadly sharp. Try it at the barber's with a pro sometime.

r/shaving · Any electric razors comparable to wet shaving? I shave almost daily, and absolutely love my Panasonic Arc5. It takes about 4 minutes (I prefer dry vs wet), and I get a very smooth shave every time. For best results, I do another quick pass with a regular razor/blade afterwards. P.S. Make sure to use pre-shave lotion/oil. Something like Speick or Lectric Shave. It makes a huge difference imho, and gives you a much more smooth and comfortable shave.
r/shaving · Am I cooked? I shave 6 times a week on average. Every day, and sometimes even twice a day when I'm on vacation as it makes me feel clean/fresh. Panny gives me that BBS (baby butt smooth) shave in just about 4 minutes (I prefer dry vs wet). But the problem is that there are some places that it's hard to get to using an electric shaver, like under the nose, and on the neck. That's where the DE safety razor/blade comes in handy. Another pass with that, and you're ready to take on the world.

Am I doing something wrong here lol? Have you considered switching to an electric razor? I own Panasonic Arc 5 that is nothing short of amazing. I use it at least three times a week when I go into the office, and if used daily with a pre-shave lotion, it actually gives me a closer shave than any of my DE razors that I use on other occasions. It can be used wet or dry (I prefer dry), and takes me 4 minutes on average to get a very clean shave. No razor bumps, cuts, or irritation, and I would describe my skin as sensitive. If electric is not your thing then I would recommend switching to a DE safety razor, something along the lines of Rockwell 6C (you can a experiment with different plates). Those give better results after a hot shower (just like disposables), and I would also suggest using pre/aftershave lotions for smoother and less irritated skin.

I’m a little disappointed in the performance since it seems to miss a lot of hairs if I’m not going exactly against the grain…. An issue I didn’t have at all with my old Braun. If your husband wants as smooth of a shave as possible in as little time as possible the foil shaver is the way to go. I have to use the rotary and the foil if it gets a little long so I'd rather shave more frequently but spend less time doing it.

I haven't used the others you mentioned but I hear it's one of the closer shaving electric razors, closer than the Brauns. I have sensitive skin though and will give me a bit of irritation on my neck with every day shaving.
r/shaving · Best shaver for my bf A lot of people suggested double edge safety razors, which is great, love and use them myself. However, I'm also a very sensitive skin shaver myself, and I've been using the Panasonic Arc 5 electric razor a lot recently and it's nice to mix up my shaving routine with this. Very convenient as well, and once you get the hang of it you can get a pretty damn close shave, you'll just need to shave more often to keep it clean vs a safety razor.

r/shaving · Need advice for buying an electric shaver I bought the arc 5 and it does work well, but with my sensitive skin I did notice some razor burns and bumps on my first try even with the pre electric shave. Did implement a shaving gel and that helped a little but still got some razor bumps on my neck area. The other thing I noticed was that it wouldn't get all the hairs around the neck even with several passes, but around the face it was all good. I will be returning it.

r/shaving · Do all electrical shavers feel like they are plucking your hairs or is mine just trash? Motor power and blade quality are good with high end shavers like Panasonic Arc 5 or comparable Braun. The same companies may sell low end stuff. I made the mistake of going cheap ages ago and hated electric shavers alltogether until I got the Arc 5.

r/shaving · best electric shaver? (sensitive skin) I switched from rotary to the Panasonic Arc 5 shaving machine because of ingrown hairs. The closeness is excellent, and it works well wet with shaving cream, which makes a huge difference for sensitive skin. It’s aggressive if you press too hard, but if you let the shaver do the work, it’s smooth. The OneBlade is fine for trimming, but it won’t give you a proper clean shave, it’s more of a hybrid groomer.

r/shaving · Daily Shaver: Braun Series 9Pro+ vs Arc 6 Vs Arc 5 Just got the Arc 5 for $129 on Amazon and I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve been doing bladed razors for a while in my head and was sold on it until I had so many nicks I wore a baseball hat for a week! Basically I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t want to shave my head more than a couple times a week. The Arc 5 is perfect for that. I wet shave with some shave cream and it is really close to a blade for the day. The only thing I don’t love is that I also have a beard and it is tricky with the really wide head to made a close shave to my beard line.

r/shaving · What's the best electric razor for men after using it for a while? I highly recommend Panasonic arc 5, I has been using it for the last five years. Previous to it I had Braun 7 and several Norelco ones. Unfortunately it is not functioning right now, the button broke but the battery still good. I guess I'm going to try to fix it, meanwhile I will use Oneblade for a while.

r/shaving · Braun series 5 The Panasonic Arc 5 has served me well over the years. It is a bit pricey at 150 dollars, but well worth it in my opinion. I use the Phillips Norelco One Blade to shave thick facial hair then the Panasonic Arc 5 as a touchup.

r/shaving · Can I get a razor-close shave with electric shavers? As Some mentioned, it definitely depends on your face the way your hair grows. Everybody knows this is true but years ago the electric shavers were way better and we all know they're purposely making them not as good now. I tried so many expensive electric shavers now and they all suck. It'll honestly take you longer to do it with an electric shaver than it would with the razor cuz you're going to have to clean it up with a razor anyway, that's how bad almost all of the electric shavers are now. So if you're having a challenge doing it with the razor you're going to have even longer time doing it with the razor and the electric shaver together cuz you're going to need both And I'm sure every other person with an electric razor is going to agree with me that you need some type of touch up after using the electric shaver. It's not perfect. I tried so many electric razors and the best one I ever owned was a Panasonic Arc 3 from 2009 that lasted 15 years. After it died I tried Braun 9000 the Panasonic newer Arc 3 Arc 5, arc 6, Norelco I can't understand how all these new razors 15 years newer are so terrible And for up to $300 more than the older one, plus the original cost. That's insane 😂 I could shave up down left right Just does not cut the hair close lol The old one would just blast through a 5-day beard no problem a few passes And as close as a baby's ass I swear it was so damn smooth. I loved it. And in the 15 years I owned it, I only bought 4 foil and razor replacements as it started getting dull and would pull the hair I would change it and then it would cut amazing. Never got a nic or cut nothing. These new razors can't shave as close but somehow have cut me . It's amazing the level of technology and ingenuity to purposely make it a little worse. Wow mankind! Let's go backwards lol. Panasonic ES8103S was the one I had 😭

r/shaving · Best beard trimmer + foil shaver that actually lasts long-term? I use the OneBlade as a trimmer and an Arc 5 shaver. The Arc 5 is fantastic once you get the hang of it for neck/cheek maintenance. The OneBlade is fine and I really appreciate how portable it is, but the small size also means it takes more time to trim/edge than with a larger beard trimmer. The OneBlade is not able to act as a substitute for a foil shaver for me.

r/shaving · what shavers would you recommend as a gift for my boyfriend? I bought the same razor about 3 years ago and I like it a lot better than the Braun series 7 that it replaced. I exclusively wet shave and keep it in the shower unless charging. The Braun rusted out after three years, the Panasonic arc5 is still going strong. Highly recommend. I did replace the foil recently but I have a very sensitive neck and was making too many passes with the old foil.

r/shaving · Been a manual shaver for 20+ years... did I miss something in the electric world? Disagree. Electric shavers have come a long way in the past 20 years. I get what I’d call a 2.75 pass shave with my Arc 5 with way less irritation than a 3 pass DE shave. The only caveat is it suck’s at getting the flat lying hairs on my neck, so I still do a single DE pass there. It’s worth it to me because it saves so much time as a whole face and head shaver. I still wet shave as a treat when I’m not in a rush, but use electric for most work days.

I've also had a Braun 9 series in the past which worked equally as good. However electric shavers are not even remotely BIFL and do not get nearly as close as a safety razor.

r/shaving · Having s terribly experience with my panasonic arc 5 you too man? i got one because everyone was talking how good it was and i was mad at my 2-year old Philips rotary just dying on me less than a year after changing the blades, then i usually go for foam instead of gel but for this shaver i got gel and was just surprised on how bad it does in the chin and neck, it just won't get you an even shave, plus it gave me an awful razor bun near the lips because you just need to press it to work, hopefully i get the refund because i did everything as told and babied it until the first shave.

r/shaving · Which electric shavor? I have, or had an Arc5, Braun 9 Pro and a Philips S9000 Pro. I collect shavers and safety razors. Although I am starting to divest of many. I shave head and face btw. Arc 5 is the closest shaver, and supposedly the new Arc6 is not better despite having a ridiculously big head, However, unless you shave every day, the Arc5 is poor at even a 3 day beard, OK at 2 days. Separate blades and head pieces are pain, and shave degradation over time is notable making you want to change blades earlier than suggested. But if your only criteria is the closest possible shave, then this is it. Braun 9 pro, just as close maaaaybee, but better at a couple days growth. I did not keep it long enough to know the longevity, but blades are cheaper. (gifted to get the Philips) Philips. Such a tiny bit less close, but can shave several days of beard and gets the hair that grows in different directions or lying down the best. Best for head shaving of the three. Also the quietest BY FAR. Blades last the longest are cheaper and can be self-resharpened if so inclined.

Panasonic shavers. I went through several Braun shavers that would break after about 3 years. I bought a Panasonic 3 head shaver and after 12 years i had to throw it away not because the shave was bad it was because the battery wouldn't hold a charge long enough to fully shaver. I replaced it with a Panasonic Arc5 and its still going strong after 5years.
