Dyson Purifier Cool TP11

Dyson Purifier Cool TP11, packshot

They're also very repairable and Dyson makes parts available for that and they're big enough that third party parts also exist but people like to forget this. I've repaired my last Dyson handheld vacuum and have been using it for a decade. Very easy and well designed, only a handful of screws to \*fully\* disassemble and clean it. There are plenty of cheaper alternatives that folks claim are better but I'll continue to purchase reparable things that are not landfill fodder.

I have noticed that the air filter definitely helps on days in the summer here in SoCal when the air quality outside isn’t great. The air quality inside my apartment is still good.

Agreed. I got mine for just under $200 because it was an old model on clearance at a home goods store when I lived in Japan. I considered that a good deal. OP got crazy lucky. I really like mine. Like you said, not worth $400+ but they are pretty nice. You can control it from the app and monitor temp, air quality index, etc both inside and outside (it connects to your weather app). https://preview.redd.it/h2cl67bphakg1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2cdedffcd5faee78099fcd84063bc20ff29da799

Better than nothing for sure, but not a great air purifier. This is inherent to the design, the "air multiplier" design means most of the air that is blows is pulled through the ring in the center which obviously doesn't get filtered.

The issue with these fans is how they blow a significant amount of air that didn't get filtered via the coanda effect. If you're looking for a fan, buy a fan. If you're looking for an air purifier, buy an air purifier. These Dyson fans are just Garbo compared to a nice DC brushless motor fan in terms of airflow and volume, and they clean very little of the air they blow compared to a traditional purifier - even a lil baby Levoit is going to do a better job. Source: owned two of these fans (this and a more expensive tier) and was generally unimpressed by their performance. Gave them away.

We have a bissel air 320 and it makes a huge difference with cooking smoke, or when we light the fireplace and get a little smoke while the draft is forming. I'm of the same question... What makes this worth $100 (or the $260 current price) A fan....not worth $100. A silent fan? Would be worth $100 (we pay that for a ceiling fan). A silent HEPA filter and good fan... Easily worth $200... Add a space heater to that... I could go to $280. But it would have to be very quiet and a good HEPA filter and I don't think it's either of those things.

I have 4 of those and the plastic turns yellow and air filtering is not good. The Winix Brand is the only filter that literally “super senses” smells and auto up/down as you’d expect with great filters.

Honestly I have one and it’s just ok. BlueAir has much better purifiers IMO and regular old fashioned fans are more powerful or just using a ceiling fan in tandem with the purifier. This is only good if you need both of those things in a limited space

Yeah…I’d be all over that. Big believer in the air purifications aspects of these devices. I simply compared how often I felt like shit, randomly in my own house, before and after I purchased. My family rarely gets sick and suffers much less from allergies now than before we purchased two of these. Maybe a coincidence but I don’t think so.

Every single one of these fans I have bought stop rotating after ~1year.... Now they just sit blowing air in 1 direction cause it can't turn without erroring out acting as am overpriced air purifier.

I tried building a box fan with filters because the internet told me the Dyson fans were overpriced. I spent more on filters and it takes an hour to take it apart and put it back together when the filters are dirty. I buy Dysons now whenever they go on sale.

No. I have had three of them and use a PM2.5 meter to measure during some really bad wild fire seasons. First the amount of air moved is nice. It’s a cooling effect. The filter though. It’s custom and a bit difficult to measure when it needs changing. Because it is low and fine particulate matter does slow it down, you’re checking the app and replacing. And that costs money. What I found more cost effective, actually more effective overall was a box fan (20x20) and an appropriate MERV filter attached with some bungee cords. You can get an easily visual and adjust the speed very easily. In addition, the filter area is huge. At night, you move it out of the bedroom and can keep it going or not. In the winter, lighting a fire can be a problem due to the reverse draft before the chimney heats up. A box fan works just fine for this purpose too. Sometimes I broil steak and that cranks the air quality to 999.9 pegging the PM2.5 meter. Box fans bring them down. So worth it? Naw. And I have 4-6 other Dyson appliances. Paid $299 or whatevs at Costco, just not worth it even at $99

Personally I wouldn't recommend this unit at all. Hardly any airflow as a fan. Purifying works well, but there are better options even for this discounted price. For those that say HEPA filters - yes a central solution is better in every way, but these are for people who dont have that option.
